Class Hours: 9:40 – 2:05
Mr. Cronin
Notes
- Pretty neat, new form of advertising. Could we do this in CAWD? CAWD2 has the drone, we are close to an exterior door…what could go wrong?
9:40 Attendance and Article
9:45 Presentations of Learning Game for Capitals

Testing out our games in front of the class. Let’s see who has met our goal!
10:00 Updated Homepage

Today in class we are going to build our next homepage. The homepage that we build today will be used next week as we move into Responsive Web Design – where we program the website to adapt to different sizes.
Requirements
- Header > h1 – your name / brand
- Google hosted display font for the h1 in the branding
- Floating page layout, centered – use <main>
- 3 piece of work that you created. Images must all be the same width.
- 300 words of text in a paragraph(s). It could be 300 words about you and your family. It could be 100 words about each of your 3 pieces of art. It could be 200 words about your future, and 100 about your favorite foods. It has to be text connected to you that people would want to read.
- 3 anchor tags <a> inside your 300 words of text to external websites. Pick 3 elements you write about and link to them. The internet is a series of connected, linked, pages.
- Use of 2 sub headings (smaller than h1) in your text / images. Whichever you choose, use twice for consistency. I recommend h3’s so they are a big enough visual change form h1’s.
- A footer with a link to your weeks folder. (This is in addition to your 3 links above). All students will have links to their work in their footers. Also include “Made by your name”, with the copyright symbol, and 2021.
This is going to take over your for the root directory in your server space. While not a specific project grade, if not ready for grading it will reduce each project grade that is graded by 1 letter (up to 3 letter grades per week). This is the front facing side of your brand, you have to protect your brand! How you show up online is often the first impression the public get of you. This includes your website, your social media, your email address, etc.
10:25 Mask Break (10 Minutes)

- We are going to take a 10 minute break (seat to seat) outside to take our masks off and get some fresh air.
- Plan on having a jacket, shoes to walk on grass, and potentially even an umbrella. You could even leave the umbrella on the floor at your station for the year if interested.
10:35 Digital trading cards > Physical trading cards?

A short film on an interesting topic.
10:45 Updated Homepage

Whatever you don’t finish today:
- Finish during remote learning (best plan).
- Come in early next week (we open at 9 – cutting it close, but ok plan).
- Hope and pray it finishes itself (really, really bad plan).
11:25 Blender Secrets

As part of our 2nd semester coursework we are going do a Day 2 Blender Secret. At this point in your career you have enough knowledge to be dangerous, and also to learn on your own. These “Blender Secrets” are ways to watch another professional work, get some inspiration, etc. The same idea can be applied to Photoshop Secrets, Illustrator Secrets, Cooking secrets – anything.
Learning how to learn is the most important skill I can help you improve– so its time you start practicing picking up content from industry sources.
11:30 Web Designer Certification Exam Prep

Just like we prep for the SAT’s, or ACT’s, or WorkKeys, we are going to practice for our Web Designer certification exam.
This is important as the exam is multiple choice! This is excellent in many ways, but also means that we have to start working in that multiple choice medium.
11:45 Lunch (30 Minutes)

12:15 Wipe Down / Clean Stations

12:20 CAWD Week 25 Homework
CAWD Project: Song Lyric Web Visualization

This week I want you creating a design (through CSS) for a song lyric. You choose the genre, song, and portion of lyric. Maybe the chorus that everyone knows? Maybe a portion of a deep track that really speaks to you?
You will use a Google hosted font for the Band / Song name.
You will style the visual look with CSS, reflecting the band and song.
If I were picking something by “The Ramones” I would consider:
- black / white / gray design elements
- gritty / punk display text
Requirements:
- single html called “index.html”
- include band name / song name in the <footer> at the bottom of your project using a Google hosted Display font
- include 20 word lyric (ballpark) prominently featured text – likely bigger than default if using <p>’s
- style driven by band / genre / style
- practice practice practice and tinkering in CSS
Save and upload your work in a “song” folder insider “week_25”. Example:
- “week_25/song/index.html“
We will start this project now in class.
Extra credit if you get your song embedded from YouTube on your site – has to be valid code!
Student Agency Project

Using your newly learned skills, create anything you wish.
Save and upload your work as “(lastname)Agency.jpg” and upload to your “week_25” folder. Example:
- “croninAgency.jpg”
Design Homework 25: “Lorem Ipsum” stylized as….

In the next page of your sketchbook we are all going to write two simple words that take up the full page:
- “Lorem Ipsum”
Lorem Ipsum is the dummy text of the design industry. We are going to all use the same words as our muse, and stylize using our brains to feel different. Design is that powerful, we have to practice it.
We are going to have sketches of “Lorem Ipsum” that are going to feel like a wide range of different styles. The style that you choose will determined the font you use, the colors you use, the shading, the application, etc.
The focus must be on the typography, but limited supporting design elements will be allowed. Think 90% type, 10% other design elements. Use the image above as a guide.
We are going to do a topic draft where the following styles will be used twice per class. Once two students choose a style, that topic is removed from consideration.
The styles list we will choose from – each topic will only be used twice in the class at a maximum.
- Space
- Urban
- Country
- Toys
- Action Movie
- Romantic
- History
Draft order will be determined live in the front of the class, we will write down your selection, and you will be locked in for your topic.
Take image of your sketch saved as “(lastName)DH25.jpg” and upload “week_25” folder. Example:
- “croninDH25.jpg”
