9:45 CAWD / Web Dev Project: Mad Lib
This weeks CAWD / Web Dev project will be an extension of this weeks learning in:
- HTML inputs (getting user data)
- JavaScript (processing and formatting data)
- CSS (visual design)
We are going to create a web based Mad Lib.
Mad Libs is a phrasal template word game. It consists of one player prompting others for a list of words to substitute for blanks in a story before reading aloud. The game is frequently played as a party game or as a pastime.
Society
I loved this as a kid. I always put “toilets” into as many inputs as I could. Yes.
This will be a variation / extension of what we have already built together.
Content Requirements:
- Obtain 10 user inputs EXCEPT food and town. At least 1 of you will use food and town and make yourself ineligible for the A – don’t be that person.
- Use placeholder to prompt the user.
- Prepare in final story.
Technical Requirements:
- Valid HTML
- Sans Serif font
- Validate form so that inputs of less than 1 character cause the focus to go to the input not filled out. Change color to visually represent this.
- Story fades in at the end.
- Design attractively
Create a folder called “madLib” with index.html as root file. Create other assets as needed.
As a reference for students that were not here yesterday or need clarification I have provided the following code examples. You can come up and try the live example out on the lead computer.
Extra credit opportunity for those that miss farming visitors! In addition the the required elements, demonstrate an additional application of JS that uses HTML and CSS … that isn’t Lightbox, a basic alert, or anything we have done already. New learning and application = extra credit. This extra application can be completely nonsensical, so long as it “functions” and is valid.
