9:45 Pin Design – Final Morning to get it as perfect as you can
Today is time for final perfection of our designs.
I have created print outs with “last looks” updates. These are the elements I would change before final submission. I am going to hand you these sheets and I need them back today before lunch. I will use these for final pin grading next week.
Before we get into the production time we are going to talk about artboards and final outputs. For the first time judging will be done online – so we only have to create the large version, and output the 7 inch x 7 inch artboard as a high quality jpg.
We will be adjusting how we output slightly so we can get a higher quality output for judging.
We also will review creating a “blob” for some designs. Our work need to be contained in an outer … container so that when it goes into production it will all connect together.
We will practice this today together, changing the artboard size to match up with our guides (as we know this is already 7×7) so our files will be outputted correctly. We are also going to export at a PNG format which will be the highest “best” compression for now. (More on this next semester.)
Once we get onto production time open the 2nd draft of your pin. Take a look at your edits that I have given you. While you don’t have to agree with my personal point of view, I have done this many times before, so I do have some experience in the process. You have to hear the input at the very least, and then justify why you didn’t take on the advice. We all want your win to win 1st at CTE / 1st at States / 1st at Nationals, just about the details at this point.
You may spend an hour today moving a bush, or fish, or deer 10 pixels this way, 10 pixels that way, looking at, moving something else – and that is why we have the entire morning for it. The last tiny bit of a design could take a huge amount of time, and that is reality in our industries.
Export your final file as “(lastName)FinalPin.png”. This will be due next Monday morning at our presentations.
In the end you will have created a design which represents Vermont, the SkillsUSA organization, has the date, and is exported as a .png file.
Here is the most recent winner of the Vermont competition
I apologize for the small size, I literally scanned a pin. Look at the detail – this is the level that wins – add in detail!
