Visual Literacy is the ability to understand, interpret and evaluate visual messages.
Let’s look at this clip from a classic 80’s movie.
Mise en Scene: Translates to Placing on Stage
This includes all of the design aspects of the scene. This may include costumes, props, lighting, character placement – basically anything to aid in the visual telling of the story.

Using a radial blur, masks and smart objects, we can create a nice effect. Again, we’ll make use of smart object as it is non destructive and allows for continual tweaking. The photo on the left was taken last night while hiking at Bolton Valley.
I wrote up a Reference Sheet on making this effect.
