Notes
- Welcome to Week 28! Let’s all make our Week 28 folders now.
- The following students have Senior Portfolio today AND Tuesday afternoon in M116 from 12:45-2pm
- Chris
- Brennan
- Friday is the end of the 3rd Quarter – the half way point in our semester. Any missing Q3 work must be turned in by 2pm Friday, or it is a zero forever.
- Any new work we do in CAWD is part of Quarter 4 as it is due in quarter 4.
- You can delete the Step Up Day folders on your desktops and log back into everything. Step Up Day went very well. I want to say this:
- Not all who applied to CAWD were accepted.
- Not all who applied to CAWD2 were accepted. As you start receiving your letters please remember to be kind to others who may not have. Let’s not knock down the door and brag, just be a good human.
- No Agency this week – it will be a while until we have one again due our Skills Vermont Design Competitions.
- Brennan starting tomorrow (or Wednesday based on Senior Portfolio) I want to use the afternoon sessions (1:20 to EOD) to work on chalk installation – sound good? We have a quarter to make it amazing.
- We are all competing in the state design competitions in 11 days!

If it is really obvious and clear what we are looking at (students guess your topic) you will do well.

Tell your teachers NOW that you will be missing class that day – you really don’t want to be in CAWD any later than 7:30. Talk to families NOW about getting a ride into school that day.
- Game contest standard CAWD hours, and your presentation window will be during class. Lunch as normal (but could be at a weird time)
- Top 3 teams for each discipline invited to awards luncheon on Monday the 10th where awards will be … awarded. You won’t know until you get there how you do. Gold medal moves on to nationals where you battle the best from the nation!
10:55 Critiques
Today LeBeau will be giving Constructive Criticism. Pick 1 thing that works, and 1 thing to improve upon next time. Remember we are separating the Design from the Designer. We are looking for actionable input.
Remember that Constructive Criticism can sometimes be subjective… on art which is also subjective. You don’t have to agree with the Constructive Criticism, but you have to hear it without getting defensive.
Tomorrow it will be Jered.
11:35 4th Quarter Design Focus – Portraits
As we move into 4th Quarter work product we will be shifting our traditional art focus to Portraits.
Portraits are one of the classic, traditional art techniques that are often required by post-secondary college programs.
As you know as we have moved throughout the year we have worked on different art disciplines / delivery methods, and this 4th and final quarter we will be moving even more independent.
Our model:
Quarter 2 – 1,2, & 3 Point Perspective | Direct instruction – I tell you what to do.Quarter 3 – Still Life’s | Resources supplied – I give you what to watch to learn.- Quarter 4 – Independent work. I give you the topic, you find and watch resources to complete the drawing task well.
11:35 Design Homework 28: Baseline Portrait
This week we will kick off the quarter by creating a baseline portrait. We are hopefully going to from the left hand image above to the right hand image, so we need to find a starting point.
In this exercise you don’t need to find any type of resource – just sketch a portrait of you / someone. This will give us a starting point to compare to at the end of the quarter in a before / after model.
Save your file as “(lastName)DH28.jpg” – due 1 week from today.
11:45 Book Exchange
As we have completed “A Gentleman in Moscow“, we are going to start our next book “1984“.
This morning we will exchange and start reading. Keep your bookmarks!
12:15 Lunch (30 Minutes)
- No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
- You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.
