9:45 Week 21 SkillsUSA Work
Each Thursday morning SkillsUSA Design Competition prep work will come out.
By Friday at lunch – create a folder with your two names on the public inside of the weeks “skillsUSA” folder. For example if Matt Smith and Beth Chamberland were working together the folder would be:
- “smithChamberland”
Create your folder in the discipline you are working on (game vs. web vs. animation).
Upload all work product to this folder by Friday at lunch. Your work product is assessed and factored into your T&E grade for that week.
- Bevins / Lamotte
- O’neal / Spofford
- Ariel / Noble
- Murray / Rice
- Bergeron / Brennan
Assignment – vegetible character (with arms and legs) doing jumping jacks.
In this project each partner is to model a cartoon character made from a vegetable (with arms and legs), rig, and animate doing a repetitive jumping jack animation.
Take this as your inspiration.
This will practice:
- rapid asset creation based on a theme
- rigging / weight painting
- animating and setting up loops / managing keyframes
Call your file “(lastName).mp4” and have at least 10 seconds long.
This can be a viewport rendered animation to show us the animation – we don’t care about the visuals yet.
No sound.
Your team will submit 2 mp4’s into your folder.
- Bright / Pine
- Granger / Aiden
- Xavier / Zimmerman
- Asa / Eli
- Finn / Jered
- Brodey / Schuyler
- Josh / Ben
- Lance / Mimi
- Blow / Palagonia
Part 1 – SWOT Analysis
This morning you are going to work with your partner to create a SWOT analysis for your Game Design team.
- What are the strengths of your team?
- What are the weaknesses you need to you need to work on?
- What are the opportunities for this project with your team?
- What are the threats to the project being a success?
Working with your partner, create a new Google document with 4 headings:
- Strengths
- Weaknesses
- Opportunities
- Threats
Under each heading I want you to list the realities of your team. Be honest, as this document is going to shape the direction of your game. If we can do a team self-assessment and find out that we are really good with programming, then we can push ourselves a bit more with a potential game idea. If we do a team self-assessment and find out that we are really good at Blender, then we may pivot to a more art-based game with less technical elements.
Download as a PDF and upload to your team folder.
Part 2 – Mood board / inspiration
Create a folder called “mood“.
In this folder place at 10 images of an art style / aesthetic you think you want to lean into. Think back to when we created our team based video game levels, we had Asian Temple, Fantasy Library, Space City, and Medieval.
What art style do you think you want your game to go? This is just finding images of inspiration on a style.
Upload your mood folder and images to your team folder.
Part 3 – Game Element
Using the images you put into your mood folder for inspiration, model a game art element for your game in Blender (or Illustrator if doing a 2D game).
Upload as “(lastName)Asset.jpg”. Your team will have two renders in this folder of two different assets.
