Finishing it up!
Which “thing” do you think we are going to create in Blender / Ilustrator to connect our reading to CAWD work?
11:05 Critiques
Today Jered will be giving Constructive Criticism. Pick 1 thing that works, and 1 thing to improve upon next time. Remember we are separating the Design from the Designer. We are looking for actionable input.
Remember that Constructive Criticism can sometimes be subjective… on art which is also subjective. You don’t have to agree with the Constructive Criticism, but you have to hear it without getting defensive.
11:40 CAWD Project: Content Management System Portfolio
This week you are going to a portfolio with your best work from the year. You are going to pick 6 projects, and have a website with a total of 7 pages. You will use the WordPress.com Content Management System (CMS).
- Home (about you, what your plan for life?)
- Sample 1
- Have at least 1 image of your work
- Include a sub heading
- Include a paragraph description
- Sample 2
- Sample 3
- Sample 4
- Sample 5
- Sample 6
** All samples follow same structure as Sample 1.
You will be selecting a sub domain name. This will be something that you could use for free lance work this summer, so picking a name like “lizardLicker420.wordpress.com” may not be the best bet.
In the WYSIWYG editor you are going to be:
- Creating pages
- Creating a navigation
- Uploading imagery
- Picking a free theme beyond the default
Create a shortcut that goes to your live site called “(lastName)Wordpress.comSite”. It is this shortcut (a pointer) that you will upload for presentations next Monday.
Preparing you for July and being an independent learner
As we race to the end of the year, we need to start pulling the teacher away more and more.
For this WordPress.com CMS project I am going to answer 1 of your questions for this project. Why are we doing this?
- You are going to be without a teacher soon – you need to learn how to learn on your own.
- Almost any question can be answered in online documentation, as well as tutorials on YouTube and other learning resources.
- It is wild to say, but ChatGPT can be used to answer questions for you, like a tutor. We are going to lean into tools like this as they will be part of our life going forward – for example all CAWD1 students next year will use ChatGPT in CAWD.
So when you think you have a question, before you raise your hand you should ask yourself “have I tried to solve this problem on my own?” “Have I asked someone in class that may already know the answer so that I can save my questions for when I really need it?” “Have I looked at the official documentation?” Do I really want to use my question for this?
Some examples:
