Class Hours: 9:40 – 2:05
Mr. Cronin
Notes
- Friday! Everyone enjoy your long weekend – we will see you all on Tuesday. Summer weather may come back…right after school ends.
- Who as my form that is due today?
- Say “Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit” – trust me.
- Remember we need our independent reading book in CAWD next week – make sure it’s here, or you will have to randomly read a random book for that random day, and it’s just make work. Bring in what YOU want to read. Leave it here if easier. Just make nice and neatly organized at your station on top of the other book.
- We will be having a later lunch period starting next week to help make the cafeteria a bit more usable. Today we keep the same schedule we have been introduced to. We will go over all of this on Tuesday – nothing to worry about today.
- We are still having drinks left at night – the janitors will take / trash all water bottles / coffee mugs left today, you are warned! We just can’t be growing mold and science experiments in CAWD.
- Some are still leaving for the day with computers left on, books not neatly organized – this will be a part of your employability grade starting very soon. In a professional setting nobody wants to work with a messy, disorganized person. We are going to be deliberate (dare I say fastidious) in how we manage our space.
- Starting next week we will open CAWD at 9:55 in the mornings for 10:05 attendance. Don’t knock, when the doors are open you can come in.
- Starting next week you will be ejected from CAWD for our breaks. Go to the bathroom, get a drink, fill water bottle during our breaks, text people, socialize in the café, go to the library to return a book, etc. At the very least it gets you off your computer and moves your body – which is healthier than just sitting at a machine all day.
- Here is a link to the CAWD Discord, run by CAWD2 students, but if you want to connect, ask questions, or just talk about cats, you may want to check it out. Alex (National Champion Alex) sent it to me to share with you.

10:10 College Credits in CAWD
As a CAWD student you are going to be eligible to earn College Credits in CAWD as early next spring. Here are some college courses that are typically part of the CAWD program.
- Spring 2024 – Website Development (3 credits) – part of CAWD / I am college instructor. It is the work you are already doing in class – the Vermont State College system has judged CAWD to be college credit worthy.
- Fall 2024 – Digital Photography (3 credits) – part of CAWD2 / Mr. Bohmann is college instructor.
- Fall 2024 – Python Programming / Drawing 1 (3 credits) – part of CAWD2 / Friday mornings at CCV. You go with CAWD2 to a college and work with a “real” college professor.
More info to come around Thanksgiving, start our the year working hard!
Remember that at CTE you can be earning college credit in PreCalc, English Composition, etc – we will connect with Emmy (the CAWD guidance counselor). Lots of opportunities – you have to step up and take advantage.

10:20 Certifications
In the spring we are going to prepare for and sit for a Web Designer certification exam through the Web Professionals organization. This is an industry recognized credential which is very helpful when applying to college, internships and jobs. We pay for it (not cheap), you just have to do your best. Last year we had about 80% of CAWD earn a certification, and this year I think everyone can earn it. More later – just on your horizon.

10:25 Design Competitions
When the calendar turns to 2024 we will start focusing on the Vermont SkillsUSA Design Competitions in April. Everyone in CAWD will pick one of the 3 career areas and focus on that specific Design Competition. You can pick from:
- Web Design (CAWD has multiple National Championships)
- 3D Animation (CAWD has multiple National Championships)
- Game Design (Sigh…. our highest is 8th. Maybe your team this year is what wins the gold!)

1:25 Speed Design
Speed Designs are 10 minute sprints in CAWD where we practice. It could be any medium – 3D, 2D, video, programming, etc. The start of the year will be Blender based to get our skills up to speed as fast as possible.
We work in a 10 minute spring, we create the output, we upload for presentations to the class. So long as you have something to present you get credit.
Any type of professional needs practice – we do 4 speed designs a week to practice repetition of skills, hitting deadlines, and low states sharing of work.
1:40 Desert Island Supplies
You are stranded on a desert island. You can bring 3 “things” with you. No the “thing” can’t be a thing that makes more things. Illegal.
In Blender create a new file and model 3 “things” what you would want to bring with you. They will all be in the same Blender file / render.
Create a render, save as your last name, and put up in the “Friday Dailies” folder on the pubic. Ideally we will look at your render and know what the objects are without you telling us.
Save your file and shutdown your machine for 2:40 presentations, so we can get you out of here right on time and make your busses!
This is all about practice, sharing ideas, and practicing deadline management.
