Class Hours: 9:40 – 2:05
Mr. Cronin
Notes
- Welcome to Week 8! Let’s all make our “week_08” folders now.
- Tobi – 2:30 early dismissal.
- Halloween Costume’s – Student Council reps? Is there a contest? Before Covid CAWD used to go hard on Halloween – love to get a photo to show all the alumni?
- Next week I was thinking of doing something Halloween themed / spooky / etc. If this is against what your family believes in please come and talk to me and we can figure something out. If everyone is ok with it, then we will lean into the “holiday”.
- Friday from 10:05 – 10:50 we are going to be hosting Mrs. Wolfe’s pretech class. Mrs. Wolfe would like to get her students an introduction to Blender – specific to 3D modeling. We are a bigger class than Pre-tech, but assume that you will be working with a visitor Friday am. Remember that workings with visitors in CAWD = extra credit, AND you don’t have to do the Pass / Fail exercise.
- You WILL need to know how to use OBS today for our Speed Design. Without giving too much away – you will likely have to demonstrate what we did today in Unreal as your Speed Design.
- Do you know where and when you have WorkKeys?
- Who is testing today?
- Lee – M117
- Little – CTE Conference Room
- Perrotte – CTE Conference Room
- Jace – M117
- All starting at 11AM today!
- Seriously, we are almost done. I have most of your scores…..
- Who is testing today?
Where are the testing locations?

11:00 Critiques
Each week we will upload our work on Monday as a class. I will then present your work to the class. Every week we will pick a new student to proactive giving constructive criticism. Constructive criticism is a type of feedback that offers specific and actionable advice to help employees to improve. In the professional setting we need to be to talk professionally about the work, even if you don’t “love” the person who created it.
If selected, you will pick 1 thing that works, and 1 thing to improve upon next time. Remember we are separating the Design from the Designer. We are looking for actionable input.
Today Ben will give Constructive Criticism.
Tomorrow Peyton will.
11:30 DH8: Segmented Floating Droid Character Orthographic Art
We are going to start creating our first animated characters in CAWD.
This week we will all create Andy the Android so you understand the process. We will do this in Blender.
We will start to think about our own original floating droid segmented characters in DH8.
You will turn to the next page of your sketchbook and split it into quadrants. Then in 3 you will draw the top, side, and front view of your original floating droid segmented character. In the 4th quadrant you will add in your name, date, and the name for your character.
We will use Emma‘s concept art from a couple years back tomorrow to create Andy, but yours will look something like this.
It is important that we create really pure front, top, and side versions as we are bringing these images into Blender to use as Blueprints.
Save your file as (lastName)DH8.jpg.
Make sure you do a good job and are proud of your work as it WILL be shared. You will shortly be creating a multi character animation with your character (that you design the Concept Art for this week), as well as another students character that you will model off of their Concept Art. Someone will be working off your Concept Art, just as you would do in the industry.
11:35 Unreal
- Let’s “use” a … bridge?
- While we do this I want you to think of Zelda, think of verticality, think of puzzles. Take the lessons we are doing and extend them with your creativity and technical skill.
- OBS – we know how to OBS right? Screen cap and demo a technique?
12:25 Lunch
- No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
- You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

2:20 Dailies
2:25 “19 Minutes”
4 of 5 days per week we will end our day in CAWD with the “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:
- Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
- Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
- Unplug
At 2:44 each day I will come to 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened in your story over that day’s reading session. It is neat to hear little pockets of a story, here and there.
