Class Hours: 9:40 – 2:05
Mr. Cronin
Notes
- Welcome to Week 6! Let’s make our folders.
- Did we survive Friday? Are we alive?
- So the next couple of weeks will be weird and wild:
- WorkKeys pre-testing starts today. Not all students need to take the pre-test (many have already taken it), but about half of the class will.
- We don’t have school on Friday or Monday – you will get a 4 day weekend! I trust that you will all go outside and experience real life in the beauty of Vermont foliage season, right, RIGHT?

11:00 Critiques
Each week we will upload our work on Monday as a class. I will then present your work to the class. Every week we will pick a new student to proactive giving constructive criticism. Constructive criticism is a type of feedback that offers specific and actionable advice to help employees to improve. In the professional setting we need to be to talk professionally about the work, even if you don’t “love” the person who created it.
If selected, you will pick 1 thing that works, and 1 thing to improve upon next time. Remember we are separating the Design from the Designer. We are looking for actionable input.
Today Tennyson will give Constructive Criticism.
Tomorrow Aiden will.
11:30 WorkKeys Intro / Testing Schedule / Locations
ACT WorkKey Assessments are the cornerstone of ACT workforce solutions. The assessments measure foundational skills required for success in the workplace, and help measure the workplace skills that can affect job performance.
Starting this week students that haven’t taken the WorkKeys assessments will take their pre-tests.
Who is taking the tests over the next couple of weeks, dates, and which random testing group:

Where are the testing locations?
11:35 Creating a Time-Lapse video with OBS and Blender
Time-lapses’s are sped up videos of a process. We can time-lapse a 3D scene creation, a digital painting, construction of a house, really anything that can be filmed being created – and then sped up. These are very popular in our fields as we can visually show a longer creation, sped up in a shorter amount of time. Like this:
12:00 DH6: A portal between the Natural and Human worlds
This weeks DH6 work as pre-production Concept Art for the Week 7 Partner based CAWD project. What you create this week will help you and your partner next week.
I want you to visualize Natural vs. Human worlds, connected through a portal. The goal will be to have a natural world (level created in Unreal with assets from Blender) and an Human World (level created in Unreal with assets from Blender) that is connected through a portal.
The Natural World will be organic, rolling landscapes, and lacking human development.
The Human World hard edged, flat, electronic, polluted, full of human development.
This week I want you to draw a finished piece OR Concept Art with the following design elements:
Natural World
- Organic element 1 (flower?)
- Organic element 2 (tree?)
- Rolling landscape (think hills) with placement for a portal
Human World
- Inorganic element 1 (building?)
- Inorganic element 2 (bridge?)
- Flat landscape with placement for portal
The Portal
- The Portal – something we will walk into using our third person game to jump from level to level
How can we draw it?
You could create something like the above example where the design elements are blended together in a fine art piece.
You could create something like this where it is 2 scenes divided in the middle.
You could create something that is Concept Art where it is different design elements all over the place, separate little sketches.
Save your file as (lastName)DH6.jpg.

2:20 Dailies
2:25 “19 Minutes”
4 of 5 days per week we will end our day in CAWD with the “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:
- Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
- Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
- Unplug
At 2:44 each day I will come to 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened in your story over that day’s reading session. It is neat to hear little pockets of a story, here and there.
