Mr. Cronin
Notes
- Thursday!
2nd semester focus / Web Design / Do you wish to earn 3 College Credits for “Website Development“? After we start up this morning I will float around and get a yes / no so we can start the process with Emmy.
- Work is already being done in class – CAWD has been deemed worthy of college credits
- The big issue is motivation – let me tell you about The History of the Ancient Greeks...
- A great experience to youth ready to kick start their education if fully engaged. A giant toe to stub if you aren’t able to give it your full attention.
- Emmy and I need to know by say … Thursday if you would like to take part. We will touch base with you later in the week, talk to your parents now about it – should cost you zero dollars.
Work Keys for tomorrow!
- Otto, Elizabeth and Tobi (10:15) in E109 Friday the 5th
- Please check in with me both times for attendance. If they mention Ben…

10:10 Week 18 and Week 19 Summative Capstone Work
As we move to the end of the first semester, just like with our Design Homework, we are going to create a summative, capstone project related to Animation / Game Design. After working for a semester, what do you like, what can you do?
In this summative capstone project you will have 2 weeks to work in the field of Animation or Game Design.
This project has multiple benefits:
- Let’s you dive into coursework you may want to explore in CAWD2 / College / Have a career in
- Let’s you dive into a focus that you think you want to take part in for the State Design competitions
- Creates a portfolio piece for college
- With an extended timeline, and full control, you get to show off your skills and creativity any way you wish
- Is your final audition for SkillsUSA Design Competitions – you will need a partner, use this project to be a proud peacock.
Today and Friday we are going to create 2 pitches. Each pitch is 50% of your CAWD project this week.
- Thursday Pitch – Animation
- Friday Pitch – Game Design
In each of your pitches you will create a 1 sheet that acts as your elevator pitch. A way to get others excited about your work, to want to work on your work, and to want to give you money, funding, scholarships, etc.
Each 1 sheet will be created in Illustrator just like Wednesday.
Thursday Pitch – Animation
Your pitch is to create a character animation out of anything you have, or could create.
The story is up to you – you have 2 weeks to work on it. Be reasonable, I would think between 10-30 seconds is that sweet spot between Pixar and doable.
The art / characters are up to you – you have 2 weeks to work on it. We should all have rigged characters we could use, but we are not required to. Maybe today on the 4th of January you want to go in a different direction? May be harder, but is allowed.
You may generate new art, models, everything for this. I don’t think that would be wise based on time. The intended goal of the project is you use the character you have been working on and practiced animation tests with.
Creating your 1 sheet
In Illustrator create a letter template (standard piece of paper like our Pin) that includes:
- Animations name
- At least 1 image
- At least 1 paragraph with description from start to finish of story
- At least 3 bullets of technical / artistic content you get to practice.
- What are you looking for in a partner?
Make your 1 sheet look as good as you can – you WANT to get people to work with you.
Save and export your file as 4X Size at (lastName)AnimationPitch.jpg.

2:20 Dailies
2:25 “19 Minutes”
4 of 5 days per week we will end our day in CAWD with the “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:
- Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
- Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
- Unplug
At 2:44 each day I will come to 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened in your story over that day’s reading session. It is neat to hear little pockets of a story, here and there.
