11:00 Critiques
Each week we will upload our work on Monday as a class. I will then present your work to the class. Every week we will pick a new student to proactive giving constructive criticism. Constructive criticism is a type of feedback that offers specific and actionable advice to help employees to improve. In the professional setting we need to be to talk professionally about the work, even if you don’t “love” the person who created it.
If selected, you will pick 1 thing that works, and 1 thing to improve upon next time. Remember we are separating the Design from the Designer. We are looking for actionable input.
Today Gabby will give Constructive Criticism.
11:30 CAWD Droid Creation x2
By now we have our 2 Droid Characters that we are going to be working with:
- Our own Droid that we drew concept art for (required)
- Our second Droid that we selected from the class (required – but you get to choose)
Connie and Ben you have to select your second droid first thing.
We are NOT creating the fully developed animation this week that you are Storyboarding for DH10. What we are doing is the second phase of pre-production for the project.
Pre-production phase 1: Create and Select Concept Art for Droids- Pre-production phase 2: Model and rig both Droids (this week), animation tests, and Create Storyboard
- Production: Creation of Animation next week
Workflow:
- Model and Rig (with hula hoop controller) Droid 1 (your droid)
- Model and Rig (with hula hoop controller) Droid 2 (the droid from your classmates)
- Create the final deliverables to demonstrate your work progress:
- lastNameDroid_1.jpg – a render of your droid (your design)
- lastNameDroid_1.mp4 – a happy greeting animation of your droid. Even if your droid will be a villain, animate a happy greeting so we can see that you have rigged and can animate your character. No sound.
- lastNameDroid_2.jpg – a render of your second droid (classmates design)
- lastNameDroid_2.mp4 – a happy greeting animation of your droid. No sound.
This will give the entire class some consistent comparable creative work product for our Critiques next week.

2:25 “19 Minutes”
4 of 5 days per week we will end our day in CAWD with the “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:
- Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
- Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
- Unplug
At 2:44 each day I will come to 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened in your story over that day’s reading session. It is neat to hear little pockets of a story, here and there.
