10:10 Day 1 of Web Design
Today we will kick-off our second semester focus of Web Design.
Web Design refers to the process of creating the visual layout, appearance, and, in some cases, content of a website. It involves a range of skills and disciplines in the production and maintenance of websites. The different areas of web design include:
- Web Graphic Design: This involves choosing the right visuals, color scheme, and graphics to make the website aesthetically appealing and in line with the brand’s identity.
- User Interface (UI) Design: Focuses on designing the website’s interface with the goal of making the user’s interaction as simple and efficient as possible.
- User Experience (UX) Design: Involves understanding and designing the website to provide a meaningful and relevant experience to users. UX design considers how users interact with the website and how easy or pleasing it is for them to do so.
- Responsive Design: Ensures that the website’s layout changes depending on the size and capabilities of the device it is being viewed on, like desktops, tablets, and smartphones.
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Involves optimizing a website so that it ranks higher in search engine results, thereby increasing the amount of organic (or free) traffic the website receives.
- Content Creation: Involves the creation and management of the website content, including text, images, and videos. Content should be relevant, engaging, and optimized for search engines.
Web designers often use various tools and technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and graphic design software (like Adobe Photoshop) to create and design websites. The goal of web design is not only to make a site look good but also to enhance its functionality and user experience.
Many of us will be earning college credit in Web Design this semester by doing CAWD work.
There are frequently Web Design jobs posted in Vermont, with our largest alumni employer being Dealer.com.
We will start our introduction in a site called CodePen, as well as exploring what inspecting a website is. We will get a chance to play today.
