11:10 Monetizing a hobby

This week we are going to look at ways we can earn money, this summer, and create a website which offers your services.

What could you do? Honestly, what could you do? What could you do during the month of July after school to make money? What have students used in the past? This is to start thinking like a professional where you can use the skills you have learned since birth to make money.

  • Firewood stacking
  • Lawn Mowing
  • Digital Painting / Commissions
  • Knitting / Textile work
  • Babysitting
  • Baking
  • Asset Creation
  • Web Design

The requirement is that it has to be realistic, and has to be professional, something you can genuinely use.

Requirements:

  • 5 page site on wordpress.com – domain has to include your first or last name along with your profession. (bradenwoodstacking.wordpress.com) as an example. The more professional, the better the grade.
  • Choose any theme you want, but it should look professional for your work. So if Braden is stacking firewood, he may not want to choose a Vaporwave theme with cursive writing.
  • Pages:
    • Home– a little about you. Real info. No sweet James. Must include a headshot of you. Use your cell phone, use something public, use your senior photo, etc.
    • Services (change to your work) – using imagery (found online) and text, tell the customer about what services you offer.
    • Rates – how much do you charge? This will be informed by…
    • Comparable – find and link to a page in the US with a competitor OR a page that with rates charged. This will help you gauge your price to charge. The page for your comparable has to explain their rate / their cost, so you can gauge what you should charge.
    • Contact – how can the public get in contact with you to do business with you?
  • As professional and serious as you can if you want the A or the B.
  • Place your link just as you did with your first Portfolio, on this sheet.
