Monday Mail – check sometime today or quickly this morning – I’ll want to start on a lesson first thing today.
10:10 Bird Bounce and Jump
We did an essential exercise with a simple ball. Looping, settling, squash & stretch and rotation. Hopefully your simple ball bounce has a good look and appeal. And you should have made a bird with me last week.
Go find your little bird character we made. We’ll apply what we learned and use the workflow from the ball to create a happy animation. To make it more exciting, we can add a deform modifier to give our character squash, stretch and drag. What’s drag…
Follow-through and overlapping action are usually associated with the animation method of “ drag”, which is the delaying of animated body parts (or accessories) in relation to the animation of the main body.
We’ll perform this Overlapping action and follow through with our bird’s face.
After you finish the animation apply some finishing touches with some lights, staging and multiple birds.
Save the animation as BouncingBird_lastname.mp4 (60 -72frames) and place in the Google Classroom Dropbox. Short deadline for this – Wednesday – end of day.
10:30 Visitors to CAWD2 and for others Independent Modeling
If you are not working with students, I’d like you to model this swingset. You can do what I did or model something like it. The goal is to finish the swing set model as we are going to add to it tomorrow. We’ll do a swing together – so don’t worry about that for now. Save your file as swingset.blend and keep in your Google Drive.

11:50 Blender Add Ons
An Add On is a small program written (in Python) that extend Blenders’ functionality.
There are many built in Add Ons that are not turned on but shipped with Blender and there are also hundreds of 3rd Party Add-Ons.
Depending on what you enjoy doing in Blender, chances are there is an Add On for that. Some internet searching will reveal many top Add Ons, so you may want to go explore.
I like using the Extra Objects Add On. Its free and you can search for it right inside of Preferences. Here are some other add-ons that I think are worth adding:
- Tri-Lighting
- Bool Tool
- Extra Objects
- Camera Rig
- Modifier Tools
Some of these we’ll use today, and others we’ll use in the coming weeks.
