10:15 Last Looks for Beta testing & Elevator Pitch
When our visitors arrive to play your games today, tomorrow and Wednesday – how will they choose? A good way to summarize your game is with an elevator pitch.
The definition of an elevator pitch is that you have about the time it takes to ride up or down an elevator to explain/describe/sell your product, idea, self, etc….
For Example: Firewatch is a mystery set in the Wyoming wilderness, where your only emotional lifeline is the person on the other end of a handheld radio. Perched atop a mountain, it’s your job to find smoke and keep the wilderness safe.
Your turn – use your Game Design Document and your creative skills and assemble a short Elevator Pitch. You can write your pitch on this Google Form.
Do this right now – I’d like to get the summaries out before our visitors today. When you are done, work on your game in preparation for visitors.
Monday – Testing – Beta
First year CAWD students will join us from 11-11:45am for game testing. You’ll need your questions and to be a good ambassador for your game.
Use this time to prepare your questions and your game for optimal feedback.
Game Publishing for Testing… – If you don’t want testers to see your backend interface…
Before you prepare your Beta for publishing…
- Create a folder in your Unity Directory – Name it Builds
- Choose that folder when exporting for a Build
- Test to see that the screen resolution and size is ok
- if you need to adjust, do this in project settings under player
- Choose Resolution, then choose Windowed, then set screen dimensions
- You can run your game right from your Build folder
10:50 Break
11:00 Game Testing – with CAWD students
The format for today will be pretty loose. I am going to ask CAWD1 students to play at least three games. You can actively recruit people to play your game, or sit idle. Remember, you are an ambassador for your game. If you want to get valuable feedback, game testing is essential. I am going to ask that you have at least one person test your game.
Make sure people test your game provide feedback using your Testing Questions.
After Testing, review your feedback. Remember, every game is tested provide user feedback. That feedback will be summarized with actionable steps. It will count as 100 points. You will create the summary and actionable steps on a google doc. This might look nice as a table.
Work on your actionable steps. This is called the Testing and Integration stages.
