10:10 Accounts

This morning we are going to work on logging into some of our different accounts. We need to setup:

Google accounts so you can get your email using the @vt.ewsd.org accounts
Adobe accounts – this should work once we get the Google accounts setup

Lets all try to login, change passwords if necessary, and open Photoshop as a test.

We are building in time here so if everything breaks, we can fix it before we need it – but let’s find out today what works and what doesn’t.

10:30 Week 1 GAWD Project: Blender Creation

Let’s open up our project we started yesterday and make some progress. Work and save.

If you weren’t here yesterday for the project kickoff, from Thursday afternoon’s Dayplan:

Starting with a new Blender project I want you to create anything. This could be abstract, this could be literal, this could be anything.

Once you make your new file you should immediately save the file as week_1.blend. Save early so we can work and press ctrl+s as we work. I will be coming around to make sure that everyone has this saved correctly and answer any questions. This is our organic production time where you have the agency to take your learning in any direction you wish.

11:00 Lego Design Challenge 3

In our final Lego design challenge students will work with a Creative Director. A Creative Director is someone managing a project, ensuring it gets to completion, hitting all the agreed upon benchmarks often made with the client.

In your team that I create, you will elect a single Creative Director.

The Creative Director will be the only team member that gets a set of instructions. It will be up to the Creative Director (CD) to make sure that the other workers get their devices completed correctly.
The CD will not create their own design – they are here just to disseminate the information to their team leaders, answer questions, find parts if a builder can’t, etc.
The CD’s are to manage their team to success first and foremost – whatever that their task is.

Once you and your team are fully complete you will show me all of your devices, get checked off, and then take your devices completely apart.

Once devices have been taken apart (after being checked off), teams that are complete can move back to their computers and work on their Week 1 GAWD Project: Blender Creation.

Today I am going to let you go simply arrive at English at 12:25. I am not going to walk you down as it seems pretty easy to get there. When you are dismissed from English you are on break, and you return to the room at 1:25 (room will be open).

Speed Designs are 15 minute sprints in GAWD where we practice. It could be any medium – 3D, 2D, video, programming, etc.

Today we will have our first speed design, and build together. What could our first Speed Design be? Here are some hints:

After you have saved your blender file, create a render, saved as lastNameFriday.jpg, and upload to the speedDesign folder on the Public Drive.

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:

Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
Unplug

At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.
