Friday, January 16th

Friday, January 16th

Class Hours: 10:05 – 2:40
Mr. Cronin

Notes

  • End of the first semester is today! Anything you want credit for from Q2 needs to be turned in before you leave today! On Tuesday (enjoy your long weekend) we just worry about Q3 and beyond.
  • Remember that we end up in English after lunch!
  • We are booked to have GAWD2 students and Mr. Bohmann come and play your Team Based Games next Wednesday at 11AM. Need to have Level 3 functional for Playtesting.
  • Weird wild schedule to accommodate our Sculpting Workshop.

10:05 Attendance and Article

10:10 Game Development Teams and Week 17 and Week 18 Assignment

Kickoff the AM with our team meeting:

  • Gather round the CD’s machine to review the GDD.
  • Update the GDD – (we will be opening and looking at at the Big Board). What does the CD need done?
  • Start constant communication with your team members throughout the day.

Once you have done this move on to individual production, but keep talking and keep the conversation going. You should be in a low density conversation constantly with your partner for the next week and a bit.

10:30 1984

Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) is a dystopian novel by George Orwell that explores totalitarianism, mass surveillance, and the manipulation of truth through the story of Winston Smith in the superstate of Oceania, ruled by the omnipresent Party and its figurehead, Big Brother.

Read along with Mr. Cronin. Improve literacy, word decoding, enjoy a nice story, and unplug from the world.

10:50 Morning Break (10 minutes)

11:00 Sculpting with Mr. Bohmann

This morning we are going to work with Mr. Bohmann to learn about the Sculpting tools in Blender.

Remember that your Partner Game must have a sculpted element in it – and it has to bang us over the head with the obvious nature that it was sculpted.

Don’t try the “I sculpted a cube, herp derp“.

Pay attention – I have no idea how to do this, so you and your partner are going to soak all the info up as I can’t be a resource.

11:55 Lunch

  • No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
  • You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

12:25 English

1:10 Afternoon Break

1:25 Speed Design

Speed Designs are 15 minute sprints in GAWD where we practice. It could be any medium – 3D, 2D, video, programming, etc.

1:40 Afternoon Practice & Production

Week 17 and 18 Team Game Work (due Monday 1/26)

  • lastNameLastNameGameOverview.mp4
  • lastNameLastNameGameTrailer.mp4

DH17: Summative Perspective Portfolio Piece (due Tuesday 1/20)

  • lastNameDH_17.jpg

2:15 Dailies

2:20 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:

  • Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
  • Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
  • Unplug

At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.

2:40 Dismissal
