Friday, October 2nd

Friday, October 2nd

Class Hours: 10:05 – 2:40
Mr. Cronin

Notes

  • Welcome to the end of a crazy week!
  • Did you know Halloween is on a Saturday this year? Good stuff.
  • Today we are going to use our AM to do some learning in Premiere and create a pass fail based off that learning.
  • Remember only 2 projects this week – our Agency and DH.
  • Stephen you have to go down to E109 at 10:15 to take your WorkKeys make up testing. Do the best you can, you are playing for a day off in May.

10:05 Attendance and Article

10:10 Premiere

  • Ken Burns Effect – The Ken Burns effect is a video technique that adds movement to still images by slowly zooming in, zooming out, or panning across the image. It helps make photographs feel more dynamic and keeps the viewer’s attention.
  • Fading in / Fading out
  • Using Text / Adjusting
  • Transitions / Crossfading for blended visuals
  • UnSplash

10:50 Morning Break (10 minutes)

11:00 10-Minute Note Card

No name required, but it does get hung up! Student chosen random topic. Use all art supplies (or try to, practice is the goal).

This week we have been upgraded again – Red and Green pencils are now in our inventory. Red and Green are complementary colors, and are required to show up in this sketch!

11:15 Premiere Pass Fail

Using a combination of text and (3) 10 second images (for a total of 30 seconds), create a quick animation that fades in from black, utilizes the Ken Burns effect on all 3 images, and then fades out to black. Pick one location – like Japan, Florida, Africa – and focus on that one region / word.

Here is an example.

When you are complete export as lastNamePassFail.mp4 and place in passFail folder on the Public Drive. Raise your hand, we will watch, check you off, and then you move on.

11:35 A Gentleman in Moscow

Imagine being sentenced to spend your life inside a luxury hotel. In A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles, Count Alexander Rostov faces exactly that. Trapped in Moscow’s Metropol Hotel after the Russian Revolution, he builds unexpected friendships and watches history unfold outside. The novel asks an important question: Can you still build a meaningful life when your freedom is taken away?

A class read-along gives us a chance to slow down, disconnect from screens, and get lost in a great book together. As we read, you’ll naturally build your vocabulary, strengthen your reading skills, and experience a story.

11:55 Lunch

  • No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
  • You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

12:25 English

1:10 Afternoon Break

1:25 Speed Design

2:20 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:

  • Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
  • Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
  • Unplug

At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.

2:40 Dismissal
