11:00 Critiques
Each week we will upload our work on Monday as a class. I will then present your work to the class. Every week we will pick a new student to proactive giving constructive criticism. Constructive criticism is a type of feedback that offers specific and actionable advice to help employees to improve. In the professional setting we need to be to talk professionally about the work, even if you don’t “love” the person who created it.
If selected, you will pick 1 thing that works, and 1 thing to improve upon next time. Remember we are separating the Design from the Designer. We are looking for actionable input.
11:30 1 Point Review
11:40 DH11: 1 Point City
This week you are going to take the concept of 1 point perspective and apply it to a “real project” compared to a floating boxes demo. We are all going to create an exterior city scene in 1 point perspective.
Now that you have practiced the concepts of a single vanishing point, and lines moving off into the distance and merging there, we can start using some artistic license. In the above example the horizon is moved up, but all depth lines still move toward the single vanishing point. This is acceptable.
In this next example we are looking UP in a city, as if we are standing in the middle of the street. Again, the depth lines are moving toward the single vanishing point – also acceptable.
Here is a final example where the horizon line is made lower, but again, all lines creating depth moving to a singular vanishing point. Acceptable.

11:50 CAWD Micro Story First Draft
This is what our next 2 weeks will look like:
- Week 11 – this week – 1st draft of micro story animation. First cut, first draft, for feedback.
- Week 12 – final cut. Take class and faculty feedback and improve to a Portfolio worthy piece.
Think of what we have done so far:
- Created custom character(s)
- Created a story (due tomorrow EOD – hopefully almost done)
- Created a storyboard (due tomorrow EOD – hopefully almost done)
- Worked on animation tests of the character by itself, as well as interacting with the world around her
You are about as ready as I can get you to create something longer form!
This week we are going to create the first draft of our Micro Story. This first draft is:
- 20% Pre Production Packet due tomorrow EOD handed to me (Story and Storyboard)
- 80% First Draft of Animation
- Minimum 4 different camera angles used
- Sound Designed
- Complete story, Start to Finish
Call your draft lastNameMicroStoryDraft.mp4.
12:25 Lunch
- No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
- You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

2:15 Dailies
2:20 “19 Minutes”
4 of 5 days per week we will end our day in CAWD with the “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:
- Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
- Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
- Unplug
At 2:39 each day I will come to 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened in your story over that day’s reading session. It is neat to hear little pockets of a story, here and there.
