Class Hours: 10:05 – 2:40
Mr. Cronin
Notes
- Welcome to a short 3 day Week 8! Let’s all make our folders…
- No DH or Agency due to short week.
- Wednesday afternoon we will have an all school assembly to end the week, and you will be dismissed from the Auditorium (so even less time to work on Wednesday, even when we are here…)
- Due to the crazy week, let’s just spin through the Dayplans. I have made them all public already so you can see where we are going.

10:10 Last Looks

Last looks is when I give students time to upload their completed work to the weekly folder on the public, in a folder that is your last name. Remember we aren’t doing any work today – this is just when we turn it in. Plan on not doing more than scan / upload each Monday morning – and the scanner may have a line!

11:00 Critiques

Each week we will upload our work on Monday. I will then present your work to the class. Each project I will pick a student to practice giving constructive criticism. Constructive criticism is a type of feedback that offers specific and actionable advice to help employees to improve. In the professional setting we need to be to talk professionally about the work, even if you don’t “love” the person who created it.
If selected, you will pick 1 thing that works, and 1 thing to improve upon next time. Remember we are separating the Design from the Designer. We are looking for actionable input.
11:30 Week 8 Focus: Student Choice

Due to a uber short week, we are NOT going to have a DH or an Agency. We are going to use our time to focus on 1 of 2 projects that we have previously started the Pre-production for. You can choose which of 2 projects you work on this week:

Option 1 –“Themed Cart” for the Universal Studios / Ringling College of Art and Design Competition
- Build something toward a National Design Competition.
- Follow 3rd party specs.
- Deadline is November 30th. Use class time and a project to build something that can go in your Portfolio AND potential earn you $$$.
Task:
- Using your concept art (has to be connected to concept art) build your Themed Cart in Blender.
- Create a 360 rotation animation to demonstrate your design. The Cart doesn’t have to move – the camera will rotate around. We will learn this Tuesday AM.
- This is your week to model and texture your best project of the year, and show off through animation.
- Create an animation called “lastNameCart.mp4“.
Taking what you create this week you can continue to develop your project and create a submission before the November 30th deadline. This can be future Agencies.
** If your concept art was weak, you can create new concept art. No sense starting with poor concept art or a poor idea, as it is the entire production that needs to be submitted to the Design Competition.

Option 2 – Covered Bridge YouTube show introduction
- Create spec work (Speculative work – done in advance to show client in an attempt to get them to pay you). Often done early in a career while still proving your mettle.
- Local Vermont end goal – maybe easier to get your work selected, put in your Portfolio.
Task:
- Using your Storyboard (has to be connected to your Storyboard) build your animation that you planed out.
- Model the assets needed, and ensure that the text at the end is clear (likely done in Premiere – Blender text just doesn’t have that professional look and feel).
- Make sure that text is legible and you can read it at LEAST 3 times when it comes on screen – for many new viewers it will be the first time they see the title text, they need time to process it.
- Create an animation called “lastNameBridge.mp4“.
** If your Storyboard and idea was weak, you can create a new idea. Don’t waste time cooking a meal for your family with bad ingredients.
These two animations our focuses for the week – no Design Homework, no Agency. Remember that Wednesday PM we are going to have an all school assembly, so you need to be expeditious while you work this week!
Regardless of which option you choose the modeling, texturing, and animation must be done by YOU.
11:55 Lunch

- No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
- You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

Week 8 Focus: Covered Bridge Introduction or Ringling Design Competition
One of 2 files:
- “lastNameCart.mp4” if doing the Design Competition
- “lastNameBridge.mp4” if doing the Covered Bridge Introduction
2:15 Dailies

2:20 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:
- Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
- Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
- Unplug
At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.
2:40 Dismissal
