10:10 JavaScript Basics WordPress site

This week you going to continue diving in WordPress as a Content Management System (CMS). We are going to create a multipage site with a new theme, and use some different blocks and plugins.
For content we are going to use AI to get an introduction to JavaScript, a programming language that we will start using in class next week.
You can’t do this project until you have a grade for your first project on Ethics and Usage Rights. We are taking over that site and changing it, so you can’t make progress until that is grade. See me directly about grading on fly…
Content Requirements
You are going to create a 5 page site. Make sure the Site Identity is “JavaScript Basics“.
- Home
- What is JavaScript?
- What does it do?
- How does it work with HTML and CSS?
- Use a YouTube block and and add a video that explains (in addition to your text) what JavaScript is.
- Script Tag
- How does the Script Tag connect HTML and JS together?
- Use a code block to write this tag in.
- Functions
- What is a function in computer programming?
- Use a YouTube block and and add a video that explains (in addition to your text) what a function is in computer programming.
- Event Listeners
- What is an Event Listener in computer programming?
- Discussion
- Create a prompt to the user for their thoughts on JavaScript.
- Include both a comment input form, as well as the ability to display the most recent single comment. We will test this live at Critiques.
Use AI to get the answers listed above. On each page use headings, paragraphs, and images to display your information, for every page.
WordPress Requirements
- Use a different theme than 2025
- Use 2 new blocks:
- YouTube block
- Code block
- Make all images clickable and use a lightbox plugin.
- Make sure the theme has navigation to get to all pages.
This is simply taking over your spot online. So we are going to EDIT our old site to our new site, and next week we will edit this site. Therefore our sites are going to be fleeting as we learn.
If you would like documentation of the work you must do screen caps or OBS record your site as it will always be changing, like specials at a resturant.
I just wanted to end on green. Get to work!

2:20 “19 Minutes”

4 of 5 days per week we will end our day in CAWD with the “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:
- Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
- Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
- Unplug
At 2:39 each day I will come to 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened in your story over that day’s reading session. It is neat to hear little pockets of a story, here and there.
2:40 Dismissal
