Thursday, April 9th

Thursday, April 9th

Class Hours: 10:05 – 2:40
Mr. Cronin

Notes

  • Thursday!
  • Don’t forget you end up in English after lunch!
  • Honor Society Inductions tonight! From the Queen of NTHS:
    • Please send new and returning NTHS members to the auditorium at 10:45 on Thursday (the 9th) for rehearsal. We expect to release students to lunch from there.
    • Program teachers – we are asking for your help during the ceremony. To streamline the ceremony, we want the program teachers who are “on-deck” (it’s alphabetical, but feel free to refer to the program) to have your students get up out of their auditorium seats and stand (in alphabetical order) along the wall so that when the students from the program before you are all up on stage, your students are ready to be called up next.
    • This will make things go faster because students won’t have to climb over each other to get out of their seats. Thank you in advance!

10:05 Attendance

10:10 Skills Production

We are presenting to our judges 1 week from today! Remember that prizes go to the 1st and 2nd place in each discipline!

Game Design Track / Mr. Cronin

Game Design

Beta Testing Revision week

This week is our final week of fixes, where we take the Beta Testing Feedback and incorporate it into your game.

Your team will pick 3 of the pieces of Beta Testing feedback and give a before and after documentation of what you fixed, just as you did with the alpha testing. Give me an MP4 that clearly shows the issues the players were complaining about, and how your team fixed them.

Sightless Studios

  • Clearer hitboxes
  • More attack animations
  • The combat should flow more
  • Need dodge ability
  • Site issue with the jump feature on first level
  • Get rid of stick figure and have character
  • Need enemy variation
  • Better audio
  • Boss skin
  • Have a visible health bar above enemies
  • When attacking allow movement
  • Have jump attacks
  • Fix getting stuck after attacking animation
  • Add a background
  • Make a visible power up feature

Greywood Studios

  • Need more levels
  • Door level should move faster, and you can see the door through the brick walls
  • Add a character sprite
  • Put more time into graphics
  • Bland background considering the lore implications
  • Puzzle complexity is too easy
  • Random spawns for doors and keys will improve replay value
  • Add a snake under the rocks as the trap
  • Fire effect to burn away the bush / vines on the door

Agent Flea

  • Graphics – more detailed figures and less clay blocky outlines
  • Have a volume control
  • Improve the movement, hitboxes, and graphics of enemies
  • Body blocking OP
  • Waves should be exponential # of enemies based on wave #
  • It started to lag badly past wave 5
  • Enemies were lame, need a more engaging enemy with model and behavior, the enemies were boring, etc
  • Attack animations
  • Some way to tell the castle is getting hit, maybe red flashes on the screen
  • Can the enemies attack the player? That would be cool

Creative Directors – get with your team and find out what makes the most sense to attack for the quality of the entire Game Experience. Make it as fun as we can, have the player left with a smile.

By 10:30 this morning I need to know which 3 (at a minimum) issues the team (CD please let me know) are going to focus on and are guaranteed to be fixed this Skills session, and will show up in your before / after video.

11:35 1984

Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) is a dystopian novel by George Orwell that explores totalitarianism, mass surveillance, and the manipulation of truth through the story of Winston Smith in the superstate of Oceania, ruled by the omnipresent Party and its figurehead, Big Brother.

Read along with Mr. Cronin. Improve literacy, word decoding, enjoy a nice story, and unplug from the world.

11:55 Lunch

  • No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
  • You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:

  • Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
  • Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
  • Unplug

At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.
