Thursday, August 27th

Thursday, August 27th

Class Hours: 10:05 – 2:40
Mr. Cronin

Notes

  • Welcome to Thursday and Day 2!
  • Today we will have our first English class. English in GAWD happens in our program day, and will be with our GAWD2 students. This helps create a nice learning community to work with through the school year.
  • Let’s review the Dayplan to start out day.
  • Talking back and forth with former student lasts night that works for Roblox, pretty neat to see their email signature:

10:05 Attendance and Article

10:10 Handbook review and form

  • We are all held to these rules, and the form says you agree to them.
  • Kind of non-negotiable, so we will just make the main office happy.
  • Review the book at your leisure, but we will go over highlights.

10:15 Schedules

CTE follows a Red / White / Blue schedule:

  • Red Days
    • Monday and Tuesday
    • Shows up as “A” class in your schedules.
    • You head to these classes at our afternoon break – make sure you leave your station as clean as you found it.
  • White Days
    • Wednesday
    • No CTE Academics on White days.
  • Blue Days
    • Thursday and Friday
    • Shows up as a “B” class in your schedules.
    • You head to these classes at our afternoon break – make sure you leave your station as clean as you found it.

EHS follows an A / B schedule, but this won’t impact us as we don’t have any EHS students taking EHS academics.

10:25 Review of yesterday

  • Dayplan
  • Drinks
  • Food
  • Blender
  • Public Drive

10:50 Morning Break (10 minutes)

11:00 Art Supplies and Note Card Challenge

  • Lets see what we have to work with initially with our art cups
  • Let’s all create on a notecard to hang in the room – get to know each other through your designs

11:25 Lego Design Challenge 2

In this design challenge students will work with a group (I choose) and create separate devices (1 for each of you) from 1 set of plans.

  • Jack / Gavin
  • Eric / Maddox
  • Sam / Mika
  • Josiah / JR
  • Ellie / Scarlett / Saurab

Once you and your partner are fully complete you will show me your devices, get checked off, and then take your devices completely apart.

Any extra time we have leading up to lunch we are just going to sit around the Lego table and talk.

11:55 Lunch

  • No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
  • You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

12:25 English

Everyone come back to GAWD after lunch, and we will all walk down together to our English classroom.

Notice that break connects to the end of English. For some of us, you can hit the bathrooms and stretch your legs after English, and make sure we are back in the room by 1:25. For others moving on to Blue CTE classes (Thursday and Friday) you will head to your class directly from English. Please plan for this!

1:10 Afternoon Break

1:25 Blender

  • Basic lighting
  • Material adjustments
  • Appending a human for reference – never ever scale your human!

1:45 Week 1 GAWD Project: Blender Creation

Today and Friday you are going to have a chance to practice your Blender skills and be creative individually.

Starting with a new Blender project I want you to create anything. This could be abstract, this could be literal, this could be anything.

Once you make your new file you should immediately save the file as week_1.blend. Save early so we can work and press ctrl+s as we work. I will be coming around to make sure that everyone has this saved correctly and answer any questions. This is our organic production time where you have the agency to take your learning in any direction you wish.

We are to ask that everyone create a single render for our dailies presentation called lastNameThursday.jpg and upload to the public drive by 2:15. At 2:15 we are going to start practicing our end of the day procedure, which is turning off our computers and getting stations neat before dailies.

2:15 Dailies

2:20 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:

  • Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
  • Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
  • Unplug

At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened. This is not a test, just paraphrase what you read about. I will always start this with you to model.

2:40 Dismissal
