Game Design Track / Mr. Cronin

Game Design

Week 23

  • Feature Lock meeting today:
    • 10:30 Agent Flea
    • 11:00 Sightless Studios
    • 11:30 Greywood Studios
    • Today we will detail and limit the extent of the game. Think of putting your thumb over the hose in the summer – constraints can lead to extensions you never even considered. In this step we hope to avoid “feature creep” where more and MORE and MOAR features are added and the project gets unfinishable. We are going to decide today what is our maximum feature set, and then you are going to make that feature set the best it can be.
  • Alpha Testing Preparation
    • Next Thursday @ 10 you will start hosting Game Testers to play your game. You will need:
      • UI
      • Sound
      • Multi Levels
      • A playable core gameplay loop. Points, lives, battling, respawning on death or time that runs out, etc.
      • Demonstration of the main mechanic your team is working on – always going back to what your team said they were going to do:
        • Agent Flea – Defeating enemies that are spawning in waves.
        • Sightless Studios – Hack n’ slash combat. Collecting fragments.
        • Greywood Studios – Puzzles.

Deliverable

  • Feature lock meeting with Mr. Cronin today.
  • 30 second rough edit of new features that you haven’t shown off, and are new this week.

Call your file gameStudioNameWeek23.mp4 and pull out anything OBS if you are looking for the A. Sound required as well if looking for the A as well – in game preferred, but we can hear it in the edit.

10:50 Morning Break (10 minutes)

11:00 Skills Production

11:40 1984

Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) is a dystopian novel by George Orwell that explores totalitarianism, mass surveillance, and the manipulation of truth through the story of Winston Smith in the superstate of Oceania, ruled by the omnipresent Party and its figurehead, Big Brother.

Read along with Mr. Cronin. Improve literacy, word decoding, enjoy a nice story, and unplug from the world.

11:55 Lunch

  • No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
  • You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

Or Skills work…

2:15 Dailies

2:20 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:

  • Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
  • Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
  • Unplug

At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.

2:40 Dismissal
