Thursday, May 15th

Thursday, May 15th

Class Hours: 10:05 – 2:40
Mr. Cronin

Notes

  • Happy Birthday Maxx!
  • Everyone switch to the ehs wifi just for this morning. We need to see the adds! (Then we can go back to the CAWD wifi where the ads are blocked.)
  • Prep Update – from now on I am going to ASK the person going from the winning team what THEY want as a game. Lots of points, lower accuracy, or less points, greater accuracy. So Sebastian, are you repping your team today? Let me know before English what you want without anyone else hearing!

10:10 Deep Dive on some sites in the Wild

usability testing

This morning we are going to look at a sites and see how they are dealing with Web Accessibility.

Brennan’s Portfolio Site. Former student that took 1st in the Nation in Animation. Let’s view the source code, run with WAVE, Bug Hunt.

This is the DCM program at CTE’s website. Looks … kinda like our Dayplan. Let’s explore, run with WAVE, Bug Hunt.

What is the moral of the story? We may never get to “perfect” accessibility rankings, but will do our best and design with accessibility in mind. Remember the act of “trying your best”, putting in a good faith effort, responding to accessibility concerns, all go a long way when an issue emerges.

1:00 Steve Jobs

Based on more than forty interviews with Steve Jobs conducted over two years–as well as interviews with more than 100 family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues–Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur

Read along with Mr. Cronin. Improve literacy, word decoding, enjoy a nice story, and unplug from the world.

2:15 Dailies

2:20 “19 Minutes”

4 of 5 days per week we will end our day in CAWD with the “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:

  • Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
  • Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
  • Unplug

At 2:39 each day I will come to 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened in your story over that day’s reading session. It is neat to hear little pockets of a story, here and there.

2:40 Dismissal
