Tuesday, April 1st

Tuesday, April 1st

Class Hours: 10:05 – 2:40
Mr. Cronin

Notes

  • Happy April 1st! Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit.
  • Welcome to Week 27! Let’s all make our folders.
  • Tuesday! Weird crazy week.
    • Start on a Tuesday – but will act as a Monday. Sorta.
    • Wednesday after break we move to SkillsUSA seating. Teammates sit with each other in different rooms, Game in GAWD, Animation and Web in GAWD2.
      • Don’t miss class tomorrow, or else your partner has to move and setup for both of you.
    • Main focus from Mid Wednesday -> Wednesday of next week will be Skills Design Competitions. It’s a really fun week of creative energy in every direction. Lots of laughing and smiles and anxiety and learning and growth.
    • All work we do this week will be due Wednesday after skills, April 9th. We are doing this so everyone has time to focus on Skills as our priority. This will impact your:
      • Web Project – Ethics and Usage Rights
      • DH27: Final Still Life
      • and we are cutting the Agency this week due to Skills.
  • No Critiques today – I will look on my own, we just have too much to do today.

10:35 WordPress Setup

  • We can have nice things, if we don’t break things.
  • Here is the issue. Everyone type in “What is my IP” into your search bar.
  • We are going to give it a shot – so long as we are deliberate and accurate, we may be ok.
  • Bookmarking out spots on the server – this is live work!
  • Create an email so we can … email these settings directly to us. Professionals do this. I have no idea what my password is.
  • Log out – how do you get back in?

10:50 Morning Break (10 minutes)

11:00 WordPress Setup Continued

11:30 CAWD Web Project: Ethics and Usage Rights

This week we are going to use our new install of WordPress as our CMS and create a single page site that uses some of the building blocks of WordPress (maybe even patterns) to setup our site.

Your one page site will be setup at your live website online. Have the Site Title “Ethics and Usage Rights“.

You are going to look up the content below using ChatGPT or any other AI software. You are welcome to use the AI to define the following terms and place into your page using paragraphs, headings, sub headings, and images. Use the different blocks WordPress gives us.

What is Copyright?

  • Include at least 1 paragraph and image.

How long does Copyright last for?

  • Include at least 1 paragraph and image.

What is Fair Use?

  • Include at least 1 paragraph and image.

What is Commercial Image Licensing?

  • Include at least 1 paragraph and image.
  • Include an outbound link to an Image Licensing Company (you pick)

What is Creative Commons?

  • Include at least 1 paragraph and image.
  • Include an outbound link to Creative Commons.

I want free images to use for my website!

  • Include the name and link to one website which allows you to download imagery to use for free.
  • An example is UnSplash.com , and now that I have TOLD YOU about it, you can’t use it. Find another. I want you to know options. No UnSplash.

There is nothing to turn in – we will simply GO to your site bookmark and look at your work.

This can be done with ANY internet connection, home, student services – heck, I am pretty sure there is even phone support for editing. This project is to be done around Skills work for the rest of the week, and will be due next Wednesday after we get the rooms back together.

Get a lot of work done today and the rest of the week will be crazy town!

This project is built so that the final section (UnSplash as an example) can be used to get the imagery for the site – start using professional image sites that offer free content. They are out there, and they simply make your final project look better.

12:20 DH27: Final Still Life!

In our final still life sketch, the end to our unit, I want you to create the best still life you can.

I want to see:

  • I want to see a variety of subject matter – at least 3 “things”. Before you go all edgy and say headphones, vape pen, and cell phone – you should really consider more classic elements that we may have practiced over the quarter. Silverware, bowl, plate, fruit, jug, bottle….
  • As a final sketch (especially) I want to see value contrast! I want black and “white” in your design. Not mid grays.
  • Pretty much the best still life of your life.

At the end of this project we will have practiced 2/3rds of what Champlain wants to see in their Game Art and Animation portfolio, with the final 3rd done during the 4th quarter (Portraits).

Save your file as lastNameDH_27.jpg.

12:25 Lunch

  • No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
  • You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

12:55 Attendance and Article

1:00 Steve Jobs

Based on more than forty interviews with Steve Jobs conducted over two years–as well as interviews with more than 100 family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues–Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur

Read along with Mr. Cronin. Improve literacy, word decoding, enjoy a nice story, and unplug from the world.

1:20 Afternoon Break (10 minutes)

1:30 Speed Design

Speed Designs are 10 minute sprints in CAWD where we practice. It could be any medium – 3D, 2D, video, programming, etc.

1:45 Afternoon Practice & Production

Ethics and Usage Rights

  • Live WordPress site

DH27: Final Still Life

  • lastNameDH_27.jpg

Skills should always be a focus – both the projects above can be done at home individually. Use your partner, and use the class time for your Skills preparations!

2:15 Dailies

2:20 “19 Minutes”

4 of 5 days per week we will end our day in CAWD with the “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:

  • Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
  • Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
  • Unplug

At 2:39 each day I will come to 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened in your story over that day’s reading session. It is neat to hear little pockets of a story, here and there.

2:40 Dismissal
