Tuesday, February 3rd

Tuesday, February 3rd

Class Hours: 10:05 – 2:40
Mr. Cronin

Notes

  • Today is the first day that I am leaving at 1:30. My wife’s knee is in bad shape, and I need to help with childcare at the end of the day for a couple weeks. You will have Mrs. Fischer in the room (Or Mr. B if necessary) from 1:30 to dismissal most days until Feb vacation. How will this work?
    • No Speed Designs until after February Break starting today.
    • Dailies will be uploaded by 2:15 and I will be checking the next morning (no end of day presentations – but YES you have dailies). Let’s take a look.
    • I think Wednesday we are going to have dailies as normal – based on our early release schedule, but for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday – I will checking the next morning.
    • Reading to end our day as normal.

10:10 Web Semester Intro and HTML

Today we are going to start our semester long exploration of Web Development. This connects to our 3 credit Website Development (CIS – 1151) class.

Your work in GAWD is your College Work, just like the first semester in “Digital Animation”.

We are going to:

  • Learn some of the basics with coding
  • Use AI and explore “vibe coding” to speed us up
  • Become masters of Content Management Systems, with the industry leader, WordPress. I was literally picking up my daughter at elementary school last Friday – and had my GAWD hoodie on – and was being asked questions on WordPress.

At the end of this semester…

  • You will know how to setup and manage a site for a client.
  • You will know the basics of programming, understand how it works “under the hood”.
  • Have skills to start making money this summer as soon as school ends.

Now we are going to start with HTML, the structure, the foundation.

11:30 Web Semester Styles

  • MAN all this stuff looks basic and ugly, let’s add some color.
    • Inline (terrible, but you should know how to do it)
    • Embedded (meh, better than inline, but not ideal)
    • External (best practice)

11:55 Lunch

  • No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
  • You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

12:25 Attendance and Article

12:30 Web Semester Styles

  • Continued work with styles

12:50 1984

Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) is a dystopian novel by George Orwell that explores totalitarianism, mass surveillance, and the manipulation of truth through the story of Winston Smith in the superstate of Oceania, ruled by the omnipresent Party and its figurehead, Big Brother.

Read along with Mr. Cronin. Improve literacy, word decoding, enjoy a nice story, and unplug from the world.

Week 20 Agency

  • lastNameAgency_1.jpg through lastNameAgency_3.jpg

2:15 Dailies cutoff time and into folder

  • I am looking at the folder the next morning, every morning, to see who had dailies in.
  • Have to have them in by the 2:15 time stamp.

2:20 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:

  • Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
  • Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
  • Unplug

At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.

2:40 Dismissal
