11:30 Integration with PHP

This week we are going to explore PHP in one of two practical hands-on projects.
Regardless of the option you choose create a folder called lastNamePHP inside your htdocs folder inside of “week_33”. This site will be presented to me next Monday so I can see the work on your mini-web server.
You have two options in Week 33:
- Standard Credit – fine, sure, nothing wrong with it. Max out at an “A” as normal.
- Extra Credit option – extra work for students that are looking to pull their GPA and college grade up as high as it can go. Max out at a 110 – 15 extra possible points. A letter grade and a half. Yes I have had students fail the extra credit option – the points are there, but you have to earn them.
Option 1 – Standard Credit
Create 7 page website on places you want to visit. Topic fully up to you. You will have a nav with 7 links.
Each page will have:
- h1 with your name and “Travels” – like “Hudson’s Travels” in a <header>
- links in <nav>
- sub heading with location name
- picture of where you want to visit (all 7 the same size)
- paragraph of why you want to visit
- <footer> with “2025 made by your name”
Site must be built with PHP Includes. This will help us automate and update our project efficiently. We want includes for:
- <header> (for the h1)
- <nav> (for the links)
- <footer> (2025 made by your name)
The expectation is no wave errors and only alerts that are positive, and we have no horizontal scroll bars – so yes design with Responsive Web Design.
On Friday AM after English I will give up updates on:
- What main business name is (you will update your php file for the include – this will be in the <header>)
- What links / file names for your 7 pages will be (you will update your php file for the include – this will be the <nav>)
- What the footer info will be (you will update your php file for the include – this will be the … <footer>)
This may sound crazy, as now your website has different links and file names than what you built, but it allows us to practice and learn, and that is my main goal.
If you have built your site with PHP includes correctly, this last-minute information will mean you open and update the smaller PHP files that update your entire site. This will be the efficient path.
If you have not used PHP includes correctly, the Friday updating will take more time, and you still won’t do well at grading as when you demonstrate the project to me you aren’t using PHP includes.
Take your time from the start of the project and build it correctly with PHP includes!
Option 2 – Extra Credit (110 possible, 15 more points than a standard “A”)

If you would like to choose the harder path and reap more credit, and earn as high as a 110 this week, you are to use AI to help, and create a basic Twitter / X clone.
You will need to demonstrate in your project:
- Basic form entry that takes your text “update” and inserts it into the database (part 1). Say a standard Twitter feed update, just text. The more updates, the larger the database.
- Read and access just the most recent update and place on your your “feed” (part 2). This can be a second page from the entry form, or it can all be on the same page.
- You demonstrate that I can go to your fake Twitter, add a status update, have it go into the Database, and only display the most current post only.
This project doesn’t need includes, or navigation at all, it’s much more about research, using AI, and problem solving. Our Advisory Board says using AI to go from nothing to running quickly is the future, so let’s practice this workflow this week.
I like to give extra credit options the last couple weeks as people are grade hunting, but you are going to have to put the effort it. It is harder, and no I won’t answer questions regarding it.
11:55 GAWD2 Game Studio Pitches

This morning we are going to go into GAWD2 with Mr. Bohmann and see pitches from 2 game teams. This is based around the idea of a collaborative game to complete the GAWD2 program.
We will do the Study Guide Wednesday with Caleb, Mallory, and Sebastian as The Winning Team.
After the presentations we are going to come back and complete a short survey that gives the Game Teams actionable feedback.
12:25 Lunch

- No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
- You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.
12:55 Attendance and Article
1:00 Steve Jobs

Based on more than forty interviews with Steve Jobs conducted over two years–as well as interviews with more than 100 family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues–Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur
Read along with Mr. Cronin. Improve literacy, word decoding, enjoy a nice story, and unplug from the world.
1:20 Afternoon Break (10 minutes)

1:30 Speed Design

Speed Designs are 10 minute sprints in CAWD where we practice. It could be any medium – 3D, 2D, video, programming, etc.
1:45 Afternoon Practice & Production

Integration with PHP (shown to me next Monday, nothing to upload)
- lastNamePHP inside your htdocs folder
DH 33: Hair
- lastNameDH_33.jpg
Week 33 Agency
- lastNameAgency_1.jpg through lastNameAgency_3.jpg
2:15 Dailies

2:20 “19 Minutes”

4 of 5 days per week we will end our day in CAWD with the “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:
- Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
- Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
- Unplug
At 2:39 each day I will come to 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened in your story over that day’s reading session. It is neat to hear little pockets of a story, here and there.
2:40 Dismissal
