10:50 Morning Break

11:00 Critiques

Each week we will upload our work on Monday. I will then present your work to the class. Each project I will pick a student to practice giving constructive criticism. Constructive criticism is a type of feedback that offers specific and actionable advice to help employees to improve. In the professional setting we need to be to talk professionally about the work, even if you don’t “love” the person who created it.
If selected, you will pick 1 thing that works, and 1 thing to improve upon next time. Remember we are separating the Design from the Designer. We are looking for actionable input.
11:30 Sky Level 2

This week we are going to create the “Sky” Level 2. The reason I use the word Sky is the second level should be viewable from Level 1, but I realize that some people will have variations of this, such as Wyatt and his tunnel that goes down for his “Sky” Level. This is fine – because we can see it.
For now we are going to continue developing our Ground Level file from last week. Just like the picture above we are going to have the Ground Level and the Sky Level in the same Unreal… level.
After vacation we are going to save this file multiple times with different player start locations to create the multi-level functionality.
Whatever you have chosen for your Art Style for your Ground Level, we are going to continue to develop for our Sky Level.
We want to be able to see Level 2 from Level 1, so make sure you when continuing the level design this week that we can “see” it. Make us want to get to it, think of it like the photo above. Have the player as themselves – “Hmm, how do I get there?”.
Continue work with the same guidelines as last week:
- Personally created or downloaded assets.
- Create a 30 second OBS recording that demonstrates your Level 2.
- No need to make a different collectable as we made it last week – right? RIGHT? Or tweak and improve your collectable. Still in the Level Design phase.
- If you want to be eligible for the “A”, we don’t want to see the OBS interface at the start or end of your file.
- Save often! Unreal is a big program, likes to crash when it gets confused. Save Save Save.
Save your final screen recording as lastNameLevel_2.mp4.
11:55 Lunch

- No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
- You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.
12:25 Attendance and Article
12:30 Blender / Unreal

Let’s explore the idea of a Vehicle game, where we can get creative and swap out the model for something else.
Exploring and tinkering.
12:50 A Gentleman in Moscow

A Gentleman in Moscow is a reader’s dream — a wonder-full, nuanced story full of wit, insight, and imagination.
Read along with Mr. Cronin. Improve literacy, word decoding, enjoy a nice story, and unplug from the world.
1:10 Afternoon Break

1:25 Speed Design

Speed Designs are 10 minute sprints in CAWD where we practice. It could be any medium – 3D, 2D, video, programming, etc.
1:40 Afternoon Practice & Production

2:15 Dailies

2:20 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:
- Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
- Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
- Unplug
At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.
2:40 Dismissal
