Wednesday Class Hours: 10:05 – 1:45
Mr. Cronin
Notes
- Early Release Wednesday! Funky Schedule! Let’s review…
- We need your help for the GAWD2 apparel project!
- Please bring your Chromebooks / laptops to English on Thursday’s and Friday’s. There is a rumor that Mx. Yopp will provide students with Chromebooks / laptops free tacos – but that is a lie I just made up.
- Note from Fran in the main office about pictures – Tomorrow is picture day for EHS. CVU students also have permission to get their photos done here. Please remind your EHS and CVU students about it and let them know to get theirs done when they can before or after program. If they need forms I do have some in the office.

10:50 Morning Break (10 minutes)

11:00 Traditional Art Warmups

Use our class paper for this – save your sketchbook! I often want you to turn it in as well, so let’s protect your sketchbooks.
- 2B Pencil – mid weight
- Our goal for the 2026 class is that EVERYTHING we create is to have value contrast. Going forward I want every sketch to have a full black to full value contrast. This will lead to the most engaging image.
- Mid tones first, shadows and highlights.
- Using blending stump to blend.
- Plastic and kneaded eraser for highlights

11:20 15 minute Concept Art Exercise: Your Castle!

Wait, are we doing this backwards? You bet we are! We often will use wacky timelines when introducing work. You have a choice:
- I want you to draw 1 beautiful version of your Castle (in a rough, concept art, 15 minute sort of way).
OR
- I want you to draw 3 smaller versions of your Castle from different angles (in an even rougher, concept art, 5 minutes per castle sort of way)
Sign and date – this is your exit card for lunch – I need these from all of you by 11:35 as we are hanging them up!
Do the best you can for the design you are creating. Add in some details you haven’t yet made yet but you will.
11:35 Lunch

- No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
- You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

1:25 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:
- Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
- Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
- Unplug
At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.
1:45 Dismissal
