10:10 Last Looks

Last looks is when I give students time to upload their completed work to the weekly folder on the public, in a folder that is your last name. Remember we aren’t doing any work today – this is just when we turn it in. Plan on not doing more than scan / upload each Monday morning – and the scanner may have a line!

Lore and Polishing

  • lastNameLore.mp4

This should be the focus, as we are presenting at 11AM!

DH16: Looking up in 3 Point Perspective

Week 16 Agency

  • lastNameAgency_1.jpg through lastNameAgency_3.jpg

What you are turning in right now is your FINAL work of the first semester. The work we do this week is due next week, it is part of Q3.

Beyond what you turn in now – the only graded work this week that is part of the 2nd quarter is your T&E grade. Everything else is Q3.

10:50 Morning Break

11:00 Monday and Tuesday GAWD Gameplay Testing

Over the next 2 days we are going to be doing Gameplay Testing for our games.

Half the class will present today (while the other half tests). Tomorrow we switch. Names for today’s presentation will come out at break today.

Use this form for each game after you play. After ALL testing has been complete feedback will be shared with teams moving on…

Teams moving on?

We are going to follow the Champlain College Game Studio model – which many of our students are in right now. Tuesday after school I am going to look through the results that you as Gameplay Testers have submitted and find out which games received the most positive feedback.

The top 50% of games will continue to be developed in 2 person teams – starting this Wednesday. You will work in teams for3 days this week, and 4 days next week (we have a long weekend). Specifics will come out on Wednesday, but assume you and your partner will be:

  • Integrating Gameplay Feedback
  • Creating Level 3
  • Creating a Game Trailer
  • Adding in an additional sculpted element into Level 3. Could this last level have a boss or some sort, or some grand visual? Could this boss or visual be sculpted? Use this as a showpiece / tentpole asset.
  • etc – again, specifics Wednesday.

Selected Game Designers will turn into Creative Directors, and be the lead developers for this group work over the next week and a half. Not only will you continue in Development, you will practice leadership skills by guiding your team to your first grade of Q3.

The other Game Designers will be assigned to work on other games. These Game Designers will turn into modelers, downloaders, audio finders, UI creators, play testers, texture creators, trailer video editors – worker bees for the Creative Directors.

You and your partner will receive a group grade for your work in Week 17 and Week 18.

If presenting today:

Start by getting your game on your screen, and have ALL players start at your Lore screen.

If playing games today:

Use this form for each game after you play.

As a PRESENTER you need to present to all 8 testers today. If you only get 4 of 8, you earn a 50% (F) for this component. You want the 100? Get 8 of 8. Get them to your games.

As a TESTER you need to play all 8. Same grading process.

I will be tracking this through the form.

Make sure you hunt out all the games and testers and complete today’s objective at 100%.

When not presenting / playing, use the remainder of your day to clean up and missing zeros in your gradebook, and work quietly.

11:55 Lunch

  • No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
  • You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

12:50 A Gentleman in Moscow

A Gentleman in Moscow is a reader’s dream — a wonder-full, nuanced story full of wit, insight, and imagination.

Read along with Mr. Cronin. Improve literacy, word decoding, enjoy a nice story, and unplug from the world.

1:10 Afternoon Break

1:25 Speed Design

Speed Designs are 10 minute sprints in CAWD where we practice. It could be any medium – 3D, 2D, video, programming, etc.

1:45 Monday and Tuesday GAWD Gameplay Testing

When not presenting / playing, use the remainder of your day to clean up and missing zeros in your gradebook, and work quietly.

2:15 Dailies

2:20 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:

  • Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
  • Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
  • Unplug

At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.
