10:35 Scheduling Update / Weird for the next 2 weeks

  • Friday (3/20) – No CTE for current GAWD students.

Next week – Week 26:

  • Monday (3/23) – WorkKeys Post Testing for Workplace Documents:
    • Students that didn’t get a 5 or higher will have to take Workplace Documents test again. You will take the test starting at 10:05, and then if you parents call you out you can go home right after. Most everyone is gone by 11:30.

      • If you received a 5 or higher on our Fall Work Keys Pre Test for Applied Math (or had received a 5 earlier) you have the day off. Do not come to GAWD during these days.
    • There will be no GAWD, no Dayplan, no assignments, bright lights on, etc. Tuesday is a WorkKeys day.
  • Wednesday (3/25) and beyond – BACK TO NORMAL – this will be the first day of our week, and this will be when our work is due and when we do critiques, normal schedule, etc.

On Workkeys Days, the attendance office requests that students and families call in days before to tell them that you can go home / are dismissed after testing. There is always a line at the main office, and that delays you all getting out of there. Make sure parents call in and say “My son/daughter is excused for the day once they complete their WorkKeys testing on Monday and Tuesday.”

This was a bunch to go over – let’s field the questions…

10:50 Morning Break

11:00 Critiques

Each week we will upload our work on Monday. I will then present your work to the class. Each project I will pick a student to practice giving constructive criticism. Constructive criticism is a type of feedback that offers specific and actionable advice to help employees to improve. In the professional setting we need to be to talk professionally about the work, even if you don’t “love” the person who created it.

If selected, you will pick 1 thing that works, and 1 thing to improve upon next time. Remember we are separating the Design from the Designer. We are looking for actionable input.

11:30 DH25: Overlapping

This week the focus is on the ideas of overlapping subject matter. So far we have seen a couple of example still lives that look almost like an inventory system, with items separated out. This week we want to really focus on the idea of layering the subject matter in your still life sketch.

Watch the resource above – it has to do with painting – but the message is the same.

Once you have watched the video, I want you to draw a still frame that uses overlapping of subject matter, including:

  • lemon
  • pear
  • apple
  • wildcard object (up to you – don’t be a meme)

Make sure you incorporate the lessons learned from the resource!

Save you final sketch as lastNameDH_25.jpg.

11:55 Lunch

  • No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
  • You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

Week 25 Agency

  • lastNameAgency_1.jpg through lastNameAgency_3.jpg

12:50 1984

Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) is a dystopian novel by George Orwell that explores totalitarianism, mass surveillance, and the manipulation of truth through the story of Winston Smith in the superstate of Oceania, ruled by the omnipresent Party and its figurehead, Big Brother.

Read along with Mr. Cronin. Improve literacy, word decoding, enjoy a nice story, and unplug from the world.

1:10 Afternoon Break

1:25 Speed Design

Speed Designs are 10 minute sprints in CAWD where we practice. It could be any medium – 3D, 2D, video, programming, etc.

2:15 Dailies

2:20 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:

  • Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
  • Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
  • Unplug

At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.

2:40 Dismissal
