1:10 Afternoon Break

1:25 First Speed Design of the year!

Speed Designs are 15 minute sprints in GAWD where we practice. It could be any medium – 3D, 2D, video, programming, etc.

1:45 First Independent GAWD Project: Castle!

In your first independent project of the year, you are going to create a Castle in Blender.

First, start off with a new Blender file and save it to your “week_01” folder as “castle.blend”. Now we can hit save as we work and it is all setup for us.

What type of Castle should you create?

Cartoony? Realistic? Something specific that exists such as the Disney Castle or Helm’s Deep? Something 100% creative and original that you can’t get wrong?

Let’s say here are some classic Castle elements which should be included:

  • Walls
  • Towers
  • Keep
  • Drawbridge

Today is Day 1 of this project, for now we are going to work and save.

Preparing for Dailies

At 2:15 today we are going to have dailies, where we start presenting our work each day. You get credit so long as you show a little of what you worked on this day. We do this every day. Micro-presentations of your work each day to get us used to the idea of making our work for OTHERS as well as us.

At 2:05 we will start preparing for dailies so we are comfortable.

Computers turned off before we present.

2:15 Dailies

2:20 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will will end with the “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:

  • Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
  • Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
  • Unplug

At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened in your story over that day’s reading session. It is neat to hear little pockets of a story, here and there.

2:40 Dismissal
