11:00 Web Design

JavaScript is a programming language used to make websites interactive. While HTML provides the structure of a webpage and CSS controls how it looks, JavaScript controls how it behaves. It allows web pages to respond to user actions such as clicking buttons, typing in forms, moving the mouse, or submitting data. For example, JavaScript can show or hide elements, create image galleries, validate forms before they are submitted, or update parts of a page without reloading it.
JavaScript runs directly in the user’s web browser and works together with HTML and CSS through something called the Document Object Model (DOM). The DOM lets JavaScript read and change the content and style of elements on a page. This means JavaScript can dynamically modify text, images, or layout while the page is running. Because of this, JavaScript is a core technology of the modern web and is used to build everything from simple interactive features to full web applications.
The Front End of Web Design is what happens in the browser:
- HTML – the structure. You have a working knowledge of this.
- CSS – the style. You have a working knowledge of this.
- JavaScript – the interactivity. You are about to have a working knowledge of this!
- Intro to JavaScript
- The need for ID’s.
- Variables – containers of information
- Functions
- Event Listeners
- The DOM
- Let’s all get the Quick JavaScript Switcher installed
- Learning through playing and noodling with code, tinkering.
11:55 Lunch

- No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
- You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

12:30 Step by Step JS Gallery

This week we are going to do a Step by Step JavaScript Powered Gallery. We will code this together Tuesday and Wednesday, and you will turn this in as your assignment.
Today we will select 6 projects (all the same size) and create their thumbnails. We will use Photoshop to do this so we don’t squash and stretch, and only reveal a portion of the thumbnail.
We will do the coding mostly tomorrow.
12:50 1984

Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) is a dystopian novel by George Orwell that explores totalitarianism, mass surveillance, and the manipulation of truth through the story of Winston Smith in the superstate of Oceania, ruled by the omnipresent Party and its figurehead, Big Brother.
Read along with Mr. Cronin. Improve literacy, word decoding, enjoy a nice story, and unplug from the world.
1:10 Afternoon Break

1:25 Speed Design

Speed Designs are 10 minute sprints in CAWD where we practice. It could be any medium – 3D, 2D, video, programming, etc.
1:40 Afternoon Practice & Production

Week 24 Agency
- lastNameAgency_1.jpg through lastNameAgency_3.jpg
2:15 Dailies

2:20 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:
- Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
- Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
- Unplug
At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.
2:40 Dismissal
