10:05 Attendance

10:10 Day 1 Stuff

We won’t get to lots of stuff today like weekly schedule, grade scales, etc, today.

Let’s just look through OUR schedule today and figure out today. Tomorrow we will review the week more broadly. Today is survival and get a nice calm introduction, and more info each day.

The only students that may have an afternoon pull out class this afternoon are EHS students with one of their “A” day 7/8 classes. Let’s look and make sure everyone is comfortable.

First – timing and our Dayplan. Let’s explore

Second – need a book starting tomorrow for in-class silent reading

book covers
  • Can it be a graphic novel? NO! Graphic novels lack the word density to really stretch you and build stamina in literacy. The art and visuals of graphic novels also supplant our own imagination and creativity, potentially stunting our own growth and development.
  • Can it be a book for another class? Yes!
  • Reading, not other homework, just straight up reading.

Third – Handbook form

You can’t be here if you don’t sign it. So even if it says “you eat dragons every Thursday…” you have to sign it.

Sign it and give back to me now. Main highlights:

  • No drugs / weapons in school
  • No bullying
  • Have family reach out to school if there is going to be an absence
  • We are running school unless there is a Snow day, and then you will see it on tv and the internet.

Fourth – Installing Blender

  • Free Candy

10:30 Lego Building

This morning we are going to work on a procedural activity – low key, so everyone can drift into their own world for a little bit. Meeting new people for an entire day can be hard – even for me.

In this exercise we are looking are your ability to:

  • Working clean
  • Ability to follow a procedure and meet the goal
  • Solving your own problems

10:50 Morning Break (10 minutes)

11:00 Lego Building Continued

Continue to work on your creation, with the goal of completion by 11:20.

Please help others around you if you finish early, many hands makes easy work.

11:35 Lunch (Probably more like 11:30 so we can beat the mob)

  • No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
  • You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

12:05 Attendance

12:10 Lego Breakdown

  • Let’s break it all down without breaking it. We need to get back to how we found it for tomorrow.

12:25 Art Supplies and / Sketching Activity

12:40 A Gentleman in Moscow

A Gentleman in Moscow is a reader’s dream — a wonder-full, nuanced story full of wit, insight, and imagination.

Read along with Mr. Cronin. Improve literacy, word decoding, enjoy a nice story, and unplug from the world.

1:00 Afternoon Break (15 minutes)

1:15 Blender

  • Blender Intro
  • Saving files / rendering / desktop is fine for now – let’s create a “week_01” folder to hold our assets. We want to be organized in GAWD from Day 1.
  • The Public Drive – how we access it, how we save copies to it, it is cleaned nightly.
  • Primitive creation / manipulation (move rotation and scale).
  • Getting in camera, rendering, saving.
  • Putting assets to network for 1:40 Dailies.
  • Turning off our machines for the day – each and every day before Dailies.

1:40 Dailies

1:45 Dismissal

  • We will walk you down to where you need to be – you survived!
