10:10 Midweek Morning Meetings

Wednesday’s we will have our Midweek Morning Meetings.

You and I will meet 1:1 and we can:

  • See what you are missing for assignments
  • Go over the previous weeks T&E grades
  • Go over anything you are pretty confused about so I can review

When not meeting with me – I want you working on Production.

10:50 Morning Break (10 minutes)

11:00 Photoshop

  • Creating thumbnails with consistent, fixed sizes – avoiding Stewie head issues.
  • Folder on the public called “photoshopImages” we are going to use for this example. Thanks Sawyer.

11:20 JS Powered Gallery

This week we are create a JavaScript Powered Gallery. This will combine all our front end technologies into a single project.

You are going to mimic the structure and functionality that I show you on the big board.

You are going to select 6 of your own projects.

  • Create 6 full sized images that are the same size (1920 x 1080 is a good size).
    • If you have weird sizes and portrait images, you may need to combine into a single image so all your images have the same size.
  • Create 6 thumbnails for your full sizes images. Use creative revealing of the subject to make people want to click on the thumbnail.

The key is you are doing this for your OWN work – NOT Sawyers.

You are then going to create a Gallery of work – using all of our Front End Technologies:

  • HTML for the structure
  • CSS for the Style
  • JS for the interactivity

I am giving you code references for each component that are commented out.

Review the code line by line, read the comments, and create your own version.

The expectation is that we all have Inspect Element turned on, and are looking at the Console, where the Browser will tell you what your errors are, and even tell you what line the errors are on.

For this project I am only going to help students with questions that are coming right from the Web Console. It is time that everyone starts relying on the debugging tools that we have at our disposal as professionals.

I am happy to help with:

  • “The console says that this function is undefined but it is right here in the code”
  • “What does missing resource mean?”
  • “etc”

I won’t help with:

  • “I don’t know what’s wrong”
  • “Do it for me”
  • “etc”

The HTML:

The CSS:

The JavaScript:

Start by creating a folder called lastNameGallery to hold your project inside of Week 24. It is this entire folder that you will upload next week for grading.

11:35 Lunch

  • No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
  • You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

12:10 JS Powered Gallery

Work, ask questions, this is the final dedicated time in class you will have to work on this.

12:40 1984

Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) is a dystopian novel by George Orwell that explores totalitarianism, mass surveillance, and the manipulation of truth through the story of Winston Smith in the superstate of Oceania, ruled by the omnipresent Party and its figurehead, Big Brother.

Read along with Mr. Cronin. Improve literacy, word decoding, enjoy a nice story, and unplug from the world.

1:00 Afternoon Break (15 minutes)

1:15 Afternoon Practice & Production

JS Powered Gallery

  • folder called lastNameGallery and all the assets

DH24: Texturing

  • lastNameDH_24.jpg

Week 24 Agency

  • lastNameAgency_1.jpg through lastNameAgency_3.jpg

1:20 Dailies

1:25 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:

  • Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
  • Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
  • Unplug

At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.

1:45 Dismissal
