11:30 National Animation Competition from 2013 / Bad Piggies
This week you are going to do the SkillsUSA National Animation Competition from 2013. You are all up to the level of skills needed to complete this project, and do it well.
This specifically will practice:
- Asset creation to match concept art
- Texture Painting
- Shape Keys
- Particles
- Multiple Camera Shots
- Animating along paths
- Sound Designing
- Animation and Pacing
- Post production and editing
In 2012, the judges at Nationals gave a 17 page prompt. There was an uproar. The students (who only had 8 hours to complete the project) spent so much time reading the prompt and simply figuring out what they were supposed to do, that the next year the judges just slapped down a storyboard and said “OK hotshots, just do this.“
This week, we will do just that.

1:25 “19 Minutes”
Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:
- Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
- Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
- Unplug
At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.
