Wednesday Class Hours: 10:05 – 1:45
Mr. Cronin
Notes
- Welcome to Wednesday and our compressed early release schedule – due to this we have no afternoon academics.
- Tonight we have our GAWD Back To School Open House from 5:30 – 7pm. We would love for you to bring in your family, meet the faculty, see your space, show them a bit of what we are doing in the classroom.
- Tomorrow we get our class photos taken for our ID’s.
- When students start working at home using Google Drive, I strongly recommend using file versioning while you work. This will force Google Drive to update, which can sometimes fail if the file is the same file name over and over, back and forth to the cloud.
- Work in class – call file castle.blend.
- Work at home that night, call the file castle2.blend.
- Work in home the next day, call the file castle3.blend.
- This will not only force Google Drive to always update – it is good practice to always use versioning, so you have different forks of the project go back to if bad things happen. BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN. Versioning = backups.
- Grades are posted for your Castle and DH1: Castle Pre-production – I have no way to give you accounts, but I bet that credentials for POWER SCHOOL have been emailed to you and your family. Please familiarize yourself with the online gradebook and check it often. Typically:
- Turn work in Monday
- I have in gradebook by Tuesday PM
- Late work can start being turned in Wednesday of that week

10:10 Midweek Morning Meetings

Wednesday’s we will have our Midweek Morning Meetings.
You and I will meet 1:1 and we can:
- See what you are missing for assignments
- Go over the previous weeks T&E grades
- Go over anything you are pretty confused about so I can review
When not meeting with me – I want you working on Production.
Turning in missing work procedure:

- Make folder on the Public with your last name.
- Upload work there as you would if on time. Same file names, asset numbers, etc.
- TELL ME – or I won’t know it’s there and it gets purged with the rest of the files daily.
10:50 Morning Break (10 minutes)

11:00 Software Updating / Installing

No super elegant way to do this – we just have to install some software.
Whatever we do today can be reverse engineered at home for your Home Office / Classroom setup.
Adobe
- Creative Cloud is the front door. Download this, which allows you to download all the individual programs.
- Install what you like, but some we will need / want for class specifically.
- GAWD pays for your account which you use here and at home
Unreal
- Start here – do the same thing at home.
Today is more about DESTROYING the bandwidth of the school and downloading all the software we need. While the network chugs we will work in Blender, and worst case if everything doesn’t finish by lunch – who cares – it’s lunch.
11:15 Blender

- Procedural materials
- Node Wrangler
- Snap / Temporary Snap

11:35 Lunch

- No food in the room / eat in the Cafe.
- You are welcome to return to the room when you have finished eating and work / hang out.

12:40 A Gentleman in Moscow

Imagine being sentenced to spend your life inside a luxury hotel. In A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles, Count Alexander Rostov faces exactly that. Trapped in Moscow’s Metropol Hotel after the Russian Revolution, he builds unexpected friendships and watches history unfold outside. The novel asks an important question: Can you still build a meaningful life when your freedom is taken away?
A class read-along gives us a chance to slow down, disconnect from screens, and get lost in a great book together. As we read, you’ll naturally build your vocabulary, strengthen your reading skills, and experience a story without notifications, tabs, or other digital distractions. Think of it as a chance to unplug, relax, and let your imagination do the work.

1:25 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:
- Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
- Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
- Unplug
At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.
1:45 Dismissal
