Also: Width Tool and Scissors tools.

Pen Tool allows you to make flowing Bezier curves. The longer the handle, the more power in the curve
Using the modifier key ALT will break the path. Begin by pressing and pulling when using the pen tool.

Use the Curvature Pen Tool to Draw straight lines and smooth curves with precision and ease instead of drawing and modifying paths using Bezier curves.

C.R.A.P stands for contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity. These are the four principles of design used by graphic designers, web designers and digital learning experts. Good UX (stands for User Experience) and Good UI (User Interaction) include these principles.

  • Find a good example of each principle (could be from a video game, movie poster, app, book cover, website and place on the correct art board
  • Test out effects and tools as you create your document
  • As you add items to your art board, keep CRAP in mind for your whole document
  • 11:45 we’ll do a gallery walk of your work.

Our First Assignment

“Vermont Opens First Zoo, locals go bananas!”

Vermont just opened a Zoo! (no not really). But, Let’s imagine that you are the creative designer for a piece of printable art that will be featured for the zoo’s new postering campaign.

Goal: Create a Colorful Polygonal Animal by selecting an image of animal online and then using polygonal shapes and triangles to design a colorful animal shape recreation. Demonstrate the principles of contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity in your poster.

If you are up for added challenge, include gradients, feathering or transparency.

The fine details / deliverables:

Artboard set up: 8.5 x 11
Color Profile: CMYK (as we are going to print these)
Headline: Visit the New Vermont Zoo
Tagline: Go Wild!
Typography: A playful, rustic font for the headline and a more modern font for the tagline.
Animal: You choose – just make in Polygonal

Demonstrate good principles of Design – Remember C.R.A.P

Save your .ai file in your Google Drive as well as a .png.
Organize your Drive now so you will have an easier time later!

Filename: first initial.lastname_animal name.png
Place finished .png file in the Google Classroom Dropbox.
This project will be due on Wednesday, September 4th (one week)
