10:10 Visual Effects / After Effects

after effects logo

We’ll do a quick review this morning and then let’s look at some common shapes, repeaters, trim paths and tapers to get a better understanding of layers and shape layers.

There are two types of Shapes: Parametric and Bezier.

  • Bezier shapes can be edited at the vertex points, Parametric shapes cannot
  • Shapes are Vectors (so that’s cool)
  • A shape layer can have more than one shape. Shapes can be grouped
  • If you don’t have a layer selected and draw a shape – it will create it’s own layer
  • If you have a non shape layer selected and draw a shape you will create a mask (we tested this out yesterday)

We’ll make a little animation using our new knowledge. I’ll get you started and you can finish. Consider going to Adobe Color and getting a palette that works for your composition.

You can drop in the GAWD2 Dailies folder.
This is not a graded project, but a practice session with support. You should finish it today.

11:00 Personal Logo Showcase

Let’s have you share out your personal logo with us today. You can tell us a bit about the meaning, symbols and inspiration. Also, tell us what you might want to animate.

then –

Animation time – let’s practice animating a logo together, then you can try yourself.

This morning we are going to see the power of Adobe across programs. We’ll begin by working together on a logo animation. The practice will give you enough tools to consider how you will / want to animate your very own logo.

Important: All items of your logo that you want to animate need to be on their own top level layer in Illustrator!

I’ll repeat that: All items of your logo that you want to animate need to be on their own top level layer in Illustrator!

Let’s look at an Illustrator Logo and Layers together with this sample

Next you will begin working on your logo animation. In preparation, you will want to consider which areas of your logo need to be on their own top level layer in Illustrator.

Collect in new layer will be a tool (menu option) we’ll be using in Illustrator as well as the Release to Layers command which redistributes all the items in a layer into individual layers

1:25 Transferrable Skills Evaluations

Next year you are either going to continue your education or join the workplace.

Transferable skills are exactly what they sound like: the skills that you use in every job, no matter the title or the field. Some transferable skills are hard skills, like coding, modeling, animating, or other technical skills, and some are soft skills like communication and relationship building.

Think of transferable skills as part of your career tool belt. As you progress through your senior year, you will want to develop your skills to best prepare you for successful experiences after school. Specifically:

  • Self-Direction / Working in Groups and Teams
  • Clear and Effective Communication with others & adults
  • Creative and Practical Problem Solving
  • Citizenship

This morning I’m going to hand you a rubric to review. The rubric is your self calibration tool to determine where you see yourself now. 20% of your GAWD grade is made up of Transferrable Skills.

At the mid quarter and end of quarter, you’ll have a chance to evaluate how you are progressing.

The goal is to improve and refine your skills throughout the year. So, if you are quiet and not big into working in groups (I know the feeling), then this is a skill you will want to work on!

At the end of your rubric, include a goal or an area you want to work on. Complete sentences please.
