10:10 Let’s breakdown a scene together….

Visual Literacy is the ability to understand, interpret and evaluate visual messages.

Mise en Scene: Translates to Placing on Stage
This includes all of the design aspects of the scene.  This may include costumes, props, lighting, character placement – basically anything to aid in the visual telling of the story.

Let’s look at another clip. What do you think the artist is trying to say?

10:45 Second Semester College Course @ Champlain College

Next semester GAWD and Champlain College are going to pilot a partnership to have GAWD students take a college course on campus at Champlain College. The course we selected with the help of Champlain Faculty is going to be “Creativity and Play“. Here is our instructor Jin Liu and her course Syllabus. By taking a college course on campus, you’ll explore a new learning environment, meet and work with a college professor, and learn how to use Canvas, a popular college learning platform. This experience is about more than earning college credit. It’s about building confidence, gaining independence, developing new skills, and preparing for life after high school.

You don’t have to be planning on college to benefit from this opportunity! Whether you’re considering college, entering the workforce, or exploring other options, this experience has something for everyone. You might discover new interests, recognize hidden talents, or gain confidence in an unfamiliar environment. My goal is for everyone to approach this opportunity with an open mind, a positive attitude, and a willingness to participate. Your future is full of possibilities, and this is a chance to explore them.

The focus on this course is creativity, and applying in off computer uses. One of our Champlain partners said of this course “If the students do well in this, they are pretty much writing their acceptance letter for the Champlain Game Design Program.” We will be using paper, board games, cards, and all sorts of methods to improve the creativity of games, the gameplay, compared to worrying about a texture or model. It will be a perfect combination between the concepts at college, and the technical creativity in our classroom.

This is the type of work that is harder for AI. New human ideas. Thinking different.

As this is a pilot, we haven’t done this before, but here are some basic 50,000 foot notes as we move toward the spring.

  • Class will be at Champlain College on Tuesdays from roughly 11:45 to roughly 1. Details to come. We really wanted to get you on campus, just like we have with CCV Course – Intro to Drawing.
  • Second session will be in GAWD as a work session, where we are … working, presenting to each other in groups and individuals. The Champlain session @ GAWD will be facilitated by Mr. Cronin and Mr. Bohmann, and we will be following the instructions from our lead Champlain Instructor. I would imagine the second session will be later on in the week – not Monday or Tuesday. Again, this is a new adventure to all of us. We will adapt and make it a success.
  • 3 college credits – free to you as a student if you use your Dual Enrollment / Fast Forward voucher.
