  • Week 33 begins today!
  • Primary focus this week is to make a big dent in the development of your game. Best not to miss days….
  • To be successful, I encourage you to have a clear plan of what you want to accomplish. Don’t get caught in the design stage doing environmental art. Design should be the logic and play of your game, not the look (for now)
  • This Week – GAWD Game Studio – Final Project Game Work – Design
  • Week 34 – CAWD Game Studio – Final Project Implementation, Testing – Publishing and all work due Friday June 5th at EOD. UNTIY Certification Test Tuesday June 2nd
  • Week 35– end of year activities
    • Monday – Web Certification Exam & Middle School Visitors
    • Tuesday – Movies (TBD)
    • Wednesday – Clean Up

This week’s deliverable with be a showcase of your UI and your core mechanic.
Here are the details:

  • ScreenShots of your UI by Friday
    • Starting Splash Screen
    • Game Over
    • Win Screen
  • OBS Walkthrough of your games core mechanic – by Friday!
    (obs is the software used to record your screen)
    • Video footage of your core mechanic in action
    • Include in the video the name of game
    • Include a description of core mechanic (use text)
    • Edit in Premiere and export as .mp4
    • Shoot for 30 seconds total
    • Filename: GameMechanic_OBS.mp4
  • Remember The core mechanic will usually be the purposeful interaction that occurs the most frequently. Jumping, collecting, sliding, farming, etc…..

  1. What is your game
  2. How does or does not your game tackle the 5 core principles of good game design
  3. Select 1 principle that really stands out to you

Core Principles of Good Game Design (and level design)

  • Meaningful Core Mission
  • Design your game around a core mechanic
  • Make your games easier at the start and increasingly more difficult
  • Create Options & Different Views (change up the scenery & Balanced gameplay)
  • Feedback and Rewards
