10:10 PSA Project – Vermont Highway Safety Alliance

Our current “big” project is the PSA for distracted driving for the Vermont Highway Safety Alliance.
The project submission deadline is March 20th at midnight. We are not going to wait that long so, let’s look at where we are and how to plan to meet the deliverables.
So far we’ve completed:
- Modeling Assets for the Community Folder
- Your PSA Messaging Worksheet which identifies what kind of distracted driving you are featuring in your PSA and some facts / figures from Vermont and/or Nationally
What we need to tackle next:
- Storyboarding
- Animatic
- First Looks and Second Looks
- Final Renders with Sound and FX / Publishing
Week Twenty Three (23) This Week Storyboards Selection of digital assets Audio Blitz
Week Twenty Four (24) – March 9 -13th Showcase our first animatic – rough outline – about 30 seconds of animation for Wednesday Audio and Sound Effects Titles and Facts Included Inclusion of Materials and lighting Showcase (Friday) of first looks viewport display renders
Week Twenty Five (25) – March 16th – 18th Second Looks – This should be an EEVEE render that is a tighter version of your PSA. Second looks should include materials, sound AND your facts, figures and be just about complete
Wednesday – March 18th Final PSA Screening in class We will submit the PSA per instructions in the contest guidelines On Wednesday, March 18th, you will show your final render PSA to the class for your grade. Deadline: 11am.
Revisiting the 12 Principles of Animation
- Squash and Stretch:This principle adds a sense of weight and flexibility to characters and objects by exaggerating their shape to convey motion.
- Anticipation:This principle involves preparing the audience for an action by showing the character’s build-up or preparation for the movement.
- Staging:This principle focuses on how an action is presented to the audience, including camera angles, timing, and environment, to clearly convey the story and character’s actions.
- Straight Ahead and Pose-to-Pose:These are two approaches to animation, with straight ahead being a frame-by-frame approach and pose-to-pose focusing on key poses and then filling in the in-between frames.
- Follow Through and Overlapping Action:These principles involve the continuation of movement after the main action has stopped and the inclusion of smaller, secondary actions that happen simultaneously with the main action.
- Slow In and Slow Out:This principle refers to the natural way objects accelerate into and decelerate out of motion, rather than moving at a constant speed.
- Arcs:This principle emphasizes using curved paths for movement, rather than straight lines, to create a more natural and fluid animation.
- Secondary Action:These are the smaller, supporting movements that complement the main action, adding realism and personality to the animation.
- Timing:This principle refers to the speed and duration of actions, which affects the audience’s perception of the weight, size, and personality of the characters.
- Exaggeration:This principle involves exaggerating actions and movements to make them more expressive and engaging, especially in comedic or dramatic scenes.
- Solid Drawing:This principle emphasizes the importance of drawing characters and objects with proper form, volume, and weight, even in 2D animation.
- Appeal:This principle focuses on creating characters that are inherently likable and engaging, through good character design and animation.
When working your PSA, keep in mind the 12 principles to assist you for a good animation.
We have two items to tackle this morning:
- Start and attempt to finish your Storyboard this morning. Storyboards are due at the start of class on Thursday and are part of the animation pipeline. You cannot skip this step!
